Customs data shows that Vietnam's durian exports are expected to achieve "explosive"

Although it has not yet entered the current season, Vietnam's durian exports have grown rapidly in the first three months of 2023. Especially in the Chinese market, according to customs data, the export value of durian is equivalent to that of dragon fruit, accounting for 23% of Vietnam's total vegetable and fruit exports to China. Durian accounts for 16% of Vietnam's total export of fruits, while dragon fruit accounts for 17%.

The Ministry of Agriculture and Rural Development of Vietnam predicts that the supply of durian will begin to increase from April to May, and it is expected that the export of such products will achieve "explosive" growth in the near future.

Customs data shows that in the first quarter of 2023, Vietnam's durian exports reached 153 million US dollars, an increase of more than 7.3 times year-on-year. China holds 87% of the market share with an import value of 134 million US dollars.

In the Chinese market, according to customs data, bananas, jackfruit and mangoes are selling well after durian and pitaya. China is also the largest export market for vegetables and fruits in Vietnam, accounting for 41%. Vietnam's agricultural exports to China are facing many convenient factors.

According to customs data, specifically, in April, many border ports between Vietnam and China extended their operating hours to 22 hours per day. In addition, according to customs data, in April, the General Administration of Customs of China also approved and granted codes to 70 sweet potato cultivation areas and 13 packaging factories that meet the export requirements to the country through regular trade channels.

It is expected that Vietnam's vegetable and fruit exports will continue to show strong development momentum in the second quarter of 2023, with a growth rate expected to exceed 10%, reaching 4 billion US dollars, a year-on-year increase of 20%. Within 2023, the export value of durian is expected to reach 1 billion US dollars.
