2023-06-13

According to the latest import and export data provided by the Ministry of Agriculture, Fisheries and Food, Spain's agricultural product export value has doubled in ten years, and its external sales this year are expected to be 68.18 billion euros, an increase of 13% compared to 2022. In addition, among non EU countries, China has become the second largest country in Spain's agricultural export trading volume.

According to the latest import and export data, the export transaction volume of Spanish agricultural products has increased from 35.9 billion euros in 2012 to 60.01 billion euros in 2021, with an estimated transaction volume of 68.18 billion euros in 2023. The 2012-2021 analysis report prepared by the Madrid Economists Association pointed out that even during the COVID-19 epidemic, foreign trade in agricultural products was growing steadily.

The Madrid Institute of Economists pointed out that Spain's main trading partner remains EU countries. France is the main exporter and supplier, followed by Germany and Italy. At the same time, the Balanced trade of agricultural products between Spain and non EU countries is also positive. According to import and export data, in 2021, China was the second largest country for Spain's exports, followed by the United States.

According to import and export data from the Spanish Federation of Food and Beverage Industries (Fiab), the industry's output value was 144.955 billion euros last year, with import and export data showing an increase of 1.5% compared to the previous year; Its value added (VAB) to the total economic output was 29.786 billion euros, an increase of 13%. The industry has contributed 48.609 billion euros in taxes to public finances and provided employment opportunities for 454800 people.

The research report of the Madrid Institute of Economists believes that globalization is leading to competition worldwide, and the food industry is also facing these competitions. This, coupled with the rise in investment and energy costs, and the fact that high-quality raw materials are no longer sufficient as competitive advantages, makes innovation a top priority for enterprises.

Due to the need for EU countries to fulfill their obligations under the Paris Climate Agreement by 2050, all economic industries, including the food industry, are considering changing their production patterns. At the same time, the industry's intensive use of energy and the rise in energy prices are also driving a shift towards a more sustainable and fossil free model.
