According to a report on the Kabar website of Kyrgyzstan on June 8, the Ministry of Agriculture, Water Conservancy and Regional Development of Kyrgyzstan drafted a draft resolution entitled "In order to stabilize the market price of food products, it is proposed to implement a zero value-added tax policy on some commodities."
The draft resolution aims to create favorable conditions for Kyrgyzstan's agricultural operators by implementing a zero value-added tax rate policy on imported sugar, vegetable oil, poultry and meat. The proposed implementation period of the policy is from July 1, 2021 to December 31, 2021.
It is worth mentioning that the current total number of livestock in Kyrgyzstan does not meet the meat consumption standards of the Kyrgyz people. In 2020, Kyrgyzstan's local meat supply is 59.3%. In addition, due to Kazakhstan’s livestock export restriction policy and Uzbekistan’s livestock development plan, these measures have affected Kyrgyzstan’s imports of agricultural and livestock products, leading to soaring prices of Kyrgyzstan’s meat by 60% to 70%.
The Ministry of Agriculture, Water Resources and Regional Development of Kyrgyzstan stated that in order to protect Kyrgyz people's demand for food products and meat, reduce product prices, and reduce the burden of people's purchase, it has decided to implement a zero-tax policy on imported agricultural and livestock products. This move will have a positive impact on Kyrgyzstan's food security and security.
