From Wanli tea ceremony to China-Europe train, Fujian Wuyi tea expands the global market

2021-07-21

More than 200 years ago, Wuyi Mountain in Fujian, as the starting point of the "Ten Mile Tea Ceremony", was the main channel for Fujian's foreign exchanges and trade. According to records, from Wuyi Mountain, the Wanli Tea Ceremony extends northward through Jiangxi, Hunan, Hubei, Henan, Hebei, Shanxi, and Inner Mongolia, crossing the Gobi grassland, arriving at the trade port on the border between Mongolia and Russia, and then leading to Europe and Central Asia. , With a total length of 13,000 kilometers.

Nowadays, with the development of transportation, the distance between countries, regions and regions, and between cities and cities has been shortened. The Sino-European freight train departing from the Wuyishan land port has continued to lead and has become a new era of "Wanli Tea Ceremony". .

In recent years, China's tea industry has developed rapidly, with the area of tea gardens and tea production ranking first in the world. However, China’s tea industry is large but not strong, large but not refined, and large but not well-recognized. The international share of tea exports is low, and most tea companies export raw materials, and the low-level price competition is the main factor. The quality and efficiency of the tea industry are The competitiveness gap is obvious.

Fujian is the hometown of Chinese oolong tea and the birthplace of tea culture. Souchong black tea in the Ming Dynasty went abroad from Tongmuguan (now Wuyi Mountain) in Chong'an, Fujian, opening a new era of Chinese black tea. By the 18th century, Chinese black tea had become popular in Europe. Liu Guoying, chairman of the Wuyishan Tea Industry Association and inheritor of the intangible cultural heritage of Wuyi Rock Tea (Dahongpao) production skills, said that Wuyishan is planning to awaken its former glory and promote Wuyishan Dahongpao, black tea and other contemporary teas to expand the global market.

At the moment, Chinese officials are pushing for the “Belt and Road” construction to be deepened and solidified. According to the "14th Five-Year Plan" of Fujian Province, Fujian, as the core area of the "21st Century Maritime Silk Road", will be committed to awakening the memory of "Marine Silk" and continue to promote the construction of key projects of "Humanistic Sea Silk" and "Sea Silk Tea Ceremony". Participated in the joint application of "Hai Si" and Wanli Tea Ceremony, and promoted contemporary tea such as Wuyishan Dahongpao and Anxi Tieguanyin to re-enter the Maritime Silk Road.

Tea is an important carrier for the inheritance of Chinese culture and will deepen the exchanges and cooperation between Wuyi Mountain and the countries and regions along the "Belt and Road". Peng Xiulian, member of the Standing Committee of the Wuyishan Municipal Party Committee and Minister of the Propaganda Department, said that it is necessary to accelerate the promotion of the "Ten Thousand Miles of Tea Ceremony" application, strengthen protection and inheritance, promote the combined development of traditional crafts and modern technologies, and enhance the competition of Wuyishan tourism and tea industry by protecting, mining and developing culture force. Guan Xi, an expert on economics and information posts in the technical system of the modern tea industry in Fujian Province, pointed out that the countries and regions along the “Belt and Road” are the most important tea production and consumption areas in the world, with huge market potential and a breakthrough for the revitalization of the Wuyi tea industry.

Wuyishan City currently has an area of 148,000 mu of tea hills and employs more than 120,000 people. The Zou family in Xiamei Village, Wuyi Mountain, who once sold Wuyishan tea to Russia and other countries, also continued their tea relationship. The 29th generation descendant of the Zou family, Zou Qin, returned to his hometown to start a business and established an e-commerce platform to follow the footsteps of the forefathers and promote the "going out" of Wuyishan tea. He said that the renewal of the China-Europe train will promote Wuyishan tea to usher in new opportunities.

The Wuyishan Land Port has recently been approved as a China-Europe freight train unloading station, and has become the only departure station for goods to be exported to Central Asia, Russia, Eastern Europe and other inland regions by the China-Europe freight train in the northwestern Fujian and the surrounding areas of the junction of Fujian, Zhejiang and Jiangxi. On June 5 this year, the first "Dahongpao Number" containing tea and related goods opened smoothly. As of July 16, statistics show that there have been 15 international trains operating at Wuyishan Land Port, including 5 40-foot containers of tea.

“The China-Europe train has given Wuyi Mountain and even northern Fujian an exit to the sea, communicating and connecting the world." said Jiang Xiaowu, director of the Wuyishan Municipal Bureau of Commerce. The train uses Wuyi Rock Tea as a medium to actively connect with cities along the route, further promoting Wuyi Mountain and The transformation and upgrading of the tea industry in the surrounding cities.

The "going out" of tea is just a microcosm of the speeding up of the Wuyishan Land Port to "set sail to sea". Jiang Xiaowu introduced that with land ports as the carrier, various transportation resources will be integrated, multimodal transport modes will be actively explored, and cargo transportation with coastal ports and countries and regions along the “Belt and Road” will be strengthened, which will truly transform location advantages into development advantages. Professor Huang Maoxing from the School of Economics of Fujian Normal University believes that with the goal of channelling animal flows and focusing on logistics to condense the industry, through reconstruction and expansion to improve the infrastructure construction of the land port area, improve the core functions of the land port area, create a new logistics platform in northern Fujian and open up a new highland. .
