Chinese logistics platform Dada Group and retail platform JD Daojia announced the current snack shopping preferences in China. Mango-flavored chocolate to sauerkraut-flavored potato chips are popular among people.
Based on JD’s big data, online-to-offline experience stores, and cooperation with PepsiCo, the company released insights into the latest on-demand economic trends of Chinese snack foods in the "Snack Food On-Demand Consumption Trend Report".
As more and more people accept on-demand consumption, JD’s snack food category has achieved rapid growth. Especially gourmet snacks are popular because of its convenient one-hour delivery service.
Potato chips and spicy strips have become people's favorite daily snacks, while chocolate gift boxes are the most popular during the holiday season.
Relaxing snacks to relieve stress
According to the company’s report, JD’s snack sales have increased by 91% in 2020. Puffed food, chocolate and biscuits are the three most popular categories on the platform. At the same time, wafers, bulk food and chocolate are also the fastest growing products year-on-year.
During the raging period of the new crown, more and more consumers are turning to retail platforms to meet their snack needs. JD’s supermarket services account for 80% of JD’s snack sales.
Brand cooperation products
In April 2020, during the holiday marketing campaign jointly launched by JD Daojia and Pepsi, the sales of participating snack brands increased by 220% over the same period last year.
In August 2020, JDDJ cooperated with Yili, Procter & Gamble, Wrigley Mars Wrigley, and Mondelēz to hold an exclusive Super Fan Day marketing event. The total sales of participating brands increased by 3 times year-on-year.
Relying on the advantages of omni-channel retail, JD Daojia maintains cooperative relationships with more than 150 well-known brands.
In terms of digital marketing, the platform initiated and operated a series of marketing ips such as "Super Brand Day" and "Supermarket Brand Season", which promoted sales growth.
