According to the Ministry of Agriculture, Forestry and Fisheries of Cambodia, the country’s mangoes are mainly exported to 7 countries and regions, of which Vietnam is the largest export destination (140,000 tons), followed by Thailand (20,000 tons), China (211 tons) and South Korea (124 tons). In May of this year, the first ceremony for Cambodian mango exports to China was held. Mangoes became a fresh fruit that Cambodia can directly export to China after bananas. The Cambodian side stated that the export of fresh mangoes to China is another result of China's vigorous support for the development of modern agriculture in Cambodia, which is of positive significance for increasing the income of Cambodian farmers and workers, improving people's livelihood, and promoting the development of Cambodia's cold chain logistics industry and ports.
The Ministry of Agriculture, Forestry and Fisheries of Cambodia estimates that in the early stage after successfully entering the Chinese market, Cambodia is expected to export a larger amount of fresh mangoes to China every year, accounting for about 10% of Cambodia's annual mango production.
At the same time, according to data released by the Ministry of Agriculture, Forestry and Fisheries of Cambodia, the export volume of Cambodian bananas reached 270,000 tons in the first seven months of this year, an increase of 61% year-on-year. Since the successful export to China in May 2019, Cambodian banana exports have continued to show a good momentum. In 2020, the total export value will increase to 112 million U.S. dollars, a year-on-year increase of 128%.
The Ministry of Agriculture, Forestry and Fisheries of Cambodia pointed out that Cambodia and China have signed a bilateral free trade agreement. After the agreement comes into effect, it will further promote the development of Cambodia's agricultural sector and attract more foreign direct investment to produce and process agricultural products for export to the huge Chinese market.
