The Ministry of Agriculture and Rural Affairs held a special meeting on the 27th, emphasizing further intensifying the prevention and control of major animal diseases such as African swine fever and promoting the high-quality development of the pig industry.
The Ministry of Agriculture and Rural Affairs stated that the implementation of zoning prevention and control is an effective means to effectively control and eradicate African swine fever, and it is also an inevitable requirement for promoting the high-quality development of the pig industry. In the future, we will focus on key objectives and tasks, especially in view of the shortcomings in the supervision of live pig transportation, strengthen the analysis and application of big data, promote the sharing of information, and improve the effectiveness of joint prevention and control.
According to reports, affected by the African swine fever epidemic, the number of domestic pigs for slaughter and stock has decreased significantly in the past two years, which has helped to boost domestic pork prices. At present, the production of live pigs has been fully restored, the pork market is relatively abundant, and prices have dropped significantly.
In order to prevent large fluctuations in pig production capacity and promote the stable and healthy development of the pig industry, the Ministry of Agriculture and Rural Affairs and other departments have successively issued policies this year to formulate work plans for stabilizing pig production capacity and form a long-term mechanism for stable pig production and supply. In August 2021, with the consent of the State Council, the Ministry of Agriculture and Rural Affairs and other six departments issued the "Opinions on Promoting the Sustainable and Healthy Development of the Pig Industry" , clearly proposing the establishment of a countercyclical control mechanism for pig production, and improving the comprehensive emergency system for stable production and supply of pigs.
At the same time, the Ministry of Agriculture and Rural Affairs has stepped up efforts to promote the development of standardized large-scale pig breeding. Since 2019, it has successively introduced supporting policies such as infrastructure, finance, land use, environmental protection, transportation , and finance, which have effectively alleviated the troubles of the pig industry, especially the restriction of large-scale breeding. The development of the "trilemma" problems such as difficulty in land use, sewage disposal, and loans.
Under the combined effect of policies and the market, the quality of the development of the pig industry has been greatly improved. A large number of high-standard modern scale farms have been newly built, renovated and expanded nationwide, and the level of intelligent automation of facilities and equipment, the level of animal disease prevention and control, and the utilization of manure resources have been significantly improved.
The Ministry of Agriculture and Rural Affairs stated that in the future, it will continue to increase support for large-scale pig breeding, encourage localities to establish corresponding levels of pig production control bases based on actual conditions in the region, and stabilize the stock of large-scale pig farms. At the same time, further implement long-term support policies in finance, finance, and land use, promote cost-saving and efficiency enhancement, and accelerate transformation and upgrading.
