Vietnam's aquatic products export may reach a record in the second quarter of this year

2022-05-31

Vietnamese media reported on May 29 that Vietnam's aquatic product export volume exceeded US $1billion for the first time in March this year. In April, the export volume of aquatic products continued to grow strongly, earning US $1.13 billion in foreign exchange. The cumulative export volume in the first April exceeded US $3.6 billion, a year-on-year increase of 46.8%.

Specifically, in April this year, the export volume of shrimp products reached US $406million, a year-on-year increase of 35%. In the first April of this year, the export volume reached US $1.36 billion, a year-on-year increase of 41.5%. In April, the export volume of Chayu reached 297million US dollars, more than twice that of the same period last year. In the first four months of this year, the export volume of fish inspection reached 950million US dollars, nearly doubling year-on-year.

After the outbreak of the epidemic, the demand of major markets such as the United States and China has increased, the conflict between Russia and Ukraine has led to a shortage of market supply, and the rise in fresh prices in Shanghai is the main reason for the growth of aquatic products exports.

Vietnam aquatic products processing and Export Association (vasep) said that in the coming months, the United States and China will continue to be the main markets with strong growth in aquatic products exports.

In the first April of this year, Vietnam's aquatic products exports to China nearly doubled year-on-year, earning foreign exchange of 578million US dollars. Among them, the export of Chayu accounts for more than half of the export of aquatic products to China.

Vasep Li Fan, deputy director of Pro center, said that it is expected that the export volume of aquatic products in the second quarter of this year will reach US $2.8 billion to US $3billion, with a year-on-year increase of 36% to 38%. If the export volume reaches 3billion US dollars in the second quarter of this year, the export of aquatic products will set a new record.
