1. 175,800 tons of garlic exports in August fell both year-on-year and month-on-month

In August 2022, China's total garlic export volume was 175,800 tons, down 27.55% month-on-month and 26.90% year-on-year. From January to August, the cumulative export volume was 1.4227 million tons, a year-on-year increase of 4.37%. As a whole, due to weak foreign demand in August, Indonesia's purchasing intensity increased in July, and the corresponding decrease in August was affected, and the export situation in a single month was lower than expected.


Specifically: According to customs data, the export volume of fresh or refrigerated garlic in August 2022 was 157,600 tons, a month-on-month decrease of 27.55% and a year-on-year decrease of 26.81%; the export volume of dried garlic was 15,600 tons, and the export volume was 15,600 tons. The month-on-month decrease was 11.09%, and the year-on-year decrease was 19.82%; the total export volume of other fresh or refrigerated garlic, water garlic, garlic made or preserved with vinegar or acetic acid, frozen garlic and prepared or preserved garlic products was 2,500 tons. The month-on-month decrease was 66.54%, and the year-on-year decrease was 54.71%.


According to customs data, the total export value of Chinese garlic in August 2022 was US$177.901 million, a month-on-month decrease of US$57.3195 million, or 24.37%. A year-on-year decrease of $92.139 million, or 34.12%.


The average export price of Chinese garlic in August 2022 was US$1,011.94/ton, a month-on-month decrease of US$42.62/ton, an increase of 4.40%. It was down $110.98 per ton year-on-year, or 9.88%.


2. Indonesia’s monthly imports have dropped significantly

The global distribution of garlic is mainly concentrated in China, Spain, Argentina and the Netherlands. The export status of these four countries has basically maintained a stable position in the past 20 years. China's export volume ranks first in the world, with an annual export of about 2 million tons, accounting for 66% of the total global export volume.


In August 2022, China exported garlic to 130 countries, the largest exporter of which was Indonesia, the largest importer of garlic in the world. Followed by Vietnam and Malaysia. According to customs data, the total import volume of garlic in Indonesia in August was 32,300 tons, accounting for 18.37%, a month-on-month decrease of 41,700 tons, or 56.35%; the total import volume of Vietnam was 17,000 tons, accounting for 9.68%. , a decrease of 5,500 tons or 24.44% month-on-month; Malaysia's imports were 15,900 tons, accounting for 9.05%, a month-on-month decrease of 0.24 million tons, a decrease of 1.24%. On the whole, Southeast Asia is the main demand market for Chinese garlic, and Indonesia's demand this month has dropped significantly compared with the previous month.


3. Garlic exports in all provinces have declined to varying degrees

The global garlic looks at China, and the Chinese garlic looks at Shandong. Shandong Province accounts for about 60% of the country's total exports. According to customs data, the main export provinces of Chinese garlic in August 2022 are Shandong, Jiangsu and Henan. Among them, the export volume of Shandong Province in August was 124,000 tons, accounting for 70.52%, a decrease of 6,500 tons or 4.98% month-on-month. The total export volume of Jiangsu Province in August was 20,100 tons, accounting for 11.45%, a decrease of 10,500 tons or 34.31% from the previous month. The export volume of Henan Province in August was 9,300 tons, accounting for 5.27%, a decrease of 6,100 tons or 39.61% from the previous month. On the whole, the export of garlic in all major provinces declined in August.


Fourth, it is expected that the export volume will open a downward channel next month

In September, China's garlic export was affected by the busy agricultural production in the production area, and the manpower was relatively tight. Some exporting countries will reduce export orders accordingly. Judging from the export situation of garlic in September over the years, the export began to enter a downward channel in September, and the demand boost can only be ushered in November. According to the survey results of 10 export processing enterprises conducted by the Mysteel agricultural product research team, the overall export volume in September will be lower than that in August, and the order volume of packaging companies will decrease. It is expected that the export volume of garlic in September may continue to decline.
