Customs data shows that Vietnam's exports of tuna, squid and octopus set new records

2022-11-21

According to customs data, Vietnam's aquatic product exports in the first nine months of this year totaled 3.4 billion US dollars, up 34% year on year. It can be seen that in the first three quarters of this year, Vietnam's aquatic product export volume was equivalent to the total export volume of 2021, a record high.

Among the main aquatic products, tuna export growth is the most impressive. According to customs data, in the first 10 months of this year, the export volume of tuna reached 890 million US dollars, the highest level in the history of export of this product. Previously, the tuna export volume in 2021 was the highest, at $757 million.

Although the export growth of some of Vietnam's main products slowed down or tended to decline in the remaining months of this year, on the whole, tuna exports will continue to grow.

According to VASEP forecast, Vietnam's tuna exports to Europe, the Middle East, Japan and other markets will continue to show a growth trend by the end of 2022. Ms. Li Gui, Deputy Manager of VASEP Trade Promotion and Training Center, said that by the end of 2022, the export volume of tuna would exceed the US $1 billion mark for the first time.

In addition to tuna, squid and octopus exports are also growing positively. According to customs data, by the end of October 2022, the export volume of such products had reached 625 million US dollars, up 32% year on year, exceeding the total export volume of 2021 by about 602 million US dollars. It is estimated that by the end of the year, the export of squid and octopus is expected to exceed the US $700 million mark for the first time, reaching US $734 million.

According to customs data, South Korea still maintains its position as the largest import market for Vietnamese squid and octopus, accounting for 36% of Vietnam's total exports of squid and octopus. According to customs data, Vietnam's exports of squid and octopus to South Korea in the first nine months of this year reached 197 million US dollars, up 19% year on year.
