Import and export data show that South Korea's imports of kimchi from China continue to grow

2023-01-29

According to the convention, the season of pickled kimchi for winter in South Korea is coming, but the price of cabbage is still more than 50% higher than last year. According to the import and export data, the price of pickled vegetables such as radish and onion is still high, except for Chinese cabbage, and the kimchi imported from China continues to grow.

The report quoted the South Korean Agriculture, Fisheries and Food Circulation Commune as saying on the 20th that, based on the import and export data on the 19th, the price of Chinese cabbage has fallen back to one-third of the peak of the previous month, but it is still about 55% higher than a year ago.

According to the report, the pickled pickle season is approaching. Although the South Korean government has promised to stabilize the price of cabbage shipments, the price chaos caused by the increased demand for finished pickles is still difficult to ease.

The report notes that more and more consumers choose to buy finished pickles directly due to the high cost of pickling. Some popular finished pickles are often sold out. Import and export data show that the number of pickles imported from China increased significantly last month.

According to the import and export statistics of the South Korean Customs Office, the import of pickles from China in September was 23600 tons, an increase for two consecutive months after August (22800 tons).

Import and export data show that the price of Chinese cabbage has been rising "by rocket" since August, and the demand for Chinese pickles has continued to expand with restaurants and catering units as the center. It is expected that the scale of Chinese pickles imported this year will be higher than that of last year.
