Nike Promotes "Integrated Shoe Box" Practice, Environmental Protection Innovation, Huachen

2023-05-16

According to Huacheng Import and Export Data Observation, Nike announced that it is expected that by the fiscal year 2025, Nike China will reduce approximately 414 tons of shoe order packaging waste through project promotion, accelerating the process of "zero carbon emissions" and "zero waste". Expand the application scale of the "One Box" project and promote more environmentally friendly e-commerce consumption.

The "One Piece Shoe Box" is a groundbreaking environmental protection project piloted by Nike in 2022, made of over 90% recycled materials. By combining the shoe box with the express box, it reduces packaging waste and carbon emissions in the "last mile" from the source. Currently, over 75% of Nike footwear e-commerce orders are single piece orders, as reported by Huacheng Import and Export Data Observation.

More and more consumers are looking forward to green packaging methods that are more "environmentally friendly, reduced in quantity, and recyclable". According to a survey released by the China Consumers Association in March 2023, 88.1% of consumers choose minimalist packaging for their own use, while 62.4% of consumers believe that product packaging should be recyclable in the future. In Nike's survey, 86% of consumers expressed their desire to work with the brand to make their lives more environmentally friendly, according to Huacheng Import and Export Data Observation.

Behind the 'integrated shoe box' lies Nike's understanding of consumer needs and the design principle of Less Is More. The kraft paper color matching packaging box made of recycled materials is more sturdy, with no staining or film covering on the surface. The brand information is designed inside the shoe box to minimize the overall environmental footprint, as reported by Huacheng Import and Export Data Observation.

The continuous expansion of domestic e-commerce consumption has driven the industry to continuously explore various green and low-carbon packaging solutions. Huacheng Import and Export Data Observation Report.

Nike's Vice President of Operations and Logistics in Greater China, Chang Yuan, said, "The future scale and opportunities are great, and we are still constantly trying and improving. Positive feedback from consumers has given us a lot of motivation, and we hope to motivate more consumers to participate and work together to make environmental protection more meaningful
