According to statistics released by Changsha Customs recently, from January to May this year, the total import and export value of Hunan was 239.25 billion yuan, a year-on-year increase of 14.2%. Among them, exports were 169.86 billion yuan, an increase of 21.1%.
In May, Hunan's import and export value was 73.46 billion yuan, a substantial increase year-on-year, an increase of 54.6% year-on-year and a month-on-month increase of 43.6%. Among them, the export was 58.32 billion yuan, a year-on-year increase of 79.8% and a month-on-month increase of 59.5%.
From January to May, ASEAN, other members of the Regional Comprehensive Economic Partnership (RCEP) and countries along the “Belt and Road” promoted the growth of Hunan’s foreign trade. Hunan's imports and exports to ASEAN amounted to 48.11 billion yuan, an increase of 49.6%, accounting for 20.1% of the total import and export value. The import and export to other RCEP member countries was 79.46 billion yuan, an increase of 24.8%. The import and export of countries along the "Belt and Road" reached 81.12 billion yuan, an increase of 39.8%, and the contribution rate to the growth of Hunan's import and export reached 77.8%.
In the first five months, water transportation was the main trade method, accounting for over 70% of the total. From January to May, the import and export of water transport in Hunan was 172.94 billion yuan, an increase of 20.6%, accounting for 72.3% of the total import and export value. The goods transported by water are mainly rubber, toys, iron ore, soybeans, etc. Air transport and rail transport both increased by 19% and 31.1% respectively.
In terms of import and export products, from January to May, Hunan's exports of shoes and boots increased significantly, and toy exports to Japan and Malaysia increased significantly. Imports of iron ore fell, while soybean imports grew rapidly.
Judging from the import and export situation of each city and state, 11 cities and states in the province achieved positive growth in the first five months. Among them, Xiangxi Tujia and Miao Autonomous Prefecture increased by 81.4%, ranking first in the province in terms of growth rate; Chenzhou, Huaihua and Changde grew faster.
Changsha Customs suggested that to maintain the continuous growth of foreign trade in Hunan, it should enhance the competitiveness of its products and expand the export of advantageous products; encourage the import of advanced technologies, important equipment, key components and advantageous agricultural products, and form a positive interaction with the industrial development of our province; seize the opportunity of RCEP, Actively explore emerging markets such as East Africa, East Asia, Southeast Asia, South America, and Central and Eastern Europe along the “Belt and Road”; give full play to the advantages of comprehensive protection zones to optimize emerging business formats; support leading foreign trade enterprises to “go overseas with their brands”, and tap the export potential of enterprises that have not conducted foreign trade business.
