According to data released by the Brazilian Footwear Association (Abicalçados), in the first half of this year, Brazil’s footwear exports reached 75 million pairs, with sales increasing by 37.6% year-on-year. Export income was 651.6 million US dollars, and sales increased by 67.5% year-on-year.
Haroldo Ferreira, executive president of the Brazilian Footwear Association, said the recovery in export data shows that the industry has recovered from the new crown epidemic. Footwear exports are mainly driven by neighboring countries such as the United States and Chile. Imports to the United States, the main destination for Brazilian footwear exports, have doubled. Brazil's exports to Chile increased by nearly 120% in the first half of the year.
The state of Rio Grande do Sul accounted for 46% of total footwear exports, making it the top exporter in the industry.
