The Ethiopian Leather and Products Industry Research and Development Center released the operation of the country's leather industry in the 10 months to May. During the period, exports of leather and its products amounted to US$33 million, a 62% decrease from the target of US$69 million for the same period. In the domestic market, leather goods and shoes sales of $144 million exceeded the target for the same period ($104 million) by 38%.
Although the leather and its products industry itself is increasingly challenged and troubled, 8,000 new jobs have been created in the leather and its products industry.
At present, the main challenges facing the leather industry in Serbia are power shortage, lack of foreign exchange and leather chemical products.
