"Soft and Hard" Extremely Reduce Consumption ZTE Builds a Green Minimalist Network Huachen

ZTE attended the conference and shared the practical results of energy conservation and consumption reduction of "Building a Green Network to Benefit All Industries and Reduce Carbon".

In the 5G era, in response to the urgent need for operators to reduce network energy consumption, ZTE has launched a green network solution. For wireless networks that account for the largest proportion of energy consumption in the network, starting with both site hardware infrastructure and network operation software maintenance software and hardware, the energy consumption of wireless sites has been significantly reduced through new devices, minimalist networks, and AI applications.

Minimal hardware innovation

ZTE has continuously invested in research and development of base station equipment, focusing on continuous innovation and upgrading of new power amplifiers, new materials, and new processes to ensure optimal energy efficiency.

Introducing the industry's only dual frequency, three fan in one 12TR UBR, with single device support of 12 × "120W ultra-high transmission power, combined with the Sub-1GHz 3-band 3-fan 6TR UBR, two RF modules can support 5-band 3-fan, building the industry's simplest site, saving 30%+energy consumption on the site, Huacheng Import and Export Data Observation Report.".

Using the new generation RRU platform, the independent Super-N innovative power amplifier architecture, self-developed chips and algorithms, and adaptive efficiency tracking technology, it helps reduce the power consumption of the new generation RRU products by 25%, creating a series of UBR products with the industry's largest power, highest energy efficiency, and highest integration.

Optimize AAU heat transfer and heat dissipation performance, reduce weight, and use innovative V-shaped bionic heat dissipation teeth combined with new materials and ultra-light architecture to achieve a 20% increase in heat dissipation efficiency.

Upgrade the site supporting facilities through network transformation and new equipment application, and implement minimalist site transformation. Carry out a full outdoor renovation of the CRAN Layuan station, clear the machine room, and save energy consumption of the air conditioning at the Layuan station. For the CRAN centralized computer room, new supporting equipment such as green CRAN cabinets, intelligent fresh air systems, and liquid cooling cabinets are used based on specific circumstances, significantly reducing the energy consumption of supporting air conditioners, thereby helping operators achieve energy conservation throughout the site. In the pilot project in Tianjin in 2022, the application of green CRAN cabinets alone increased the efficiency of the site by 17%, as reported by Huacheng Import and Export Data Observation.

Software intelligence and accuracy

ZTE has launched a PowerPivot solution, and the "Wireless Network Powerpilot Energy Saving Solution Innovation Practice Case Report" was selected as the first batch of compiled cases of excellent green and low-carbon development practices in the information and communication industry in 2022. The Powerpilot solution is based on AI and big data technology, and achieves a one-stop strategy for configuring energy conservation functions at sites through means such as load forecasting, iterative optimization of KPIs, and protection of poor quality cells, achieving a balance between energy conservation and network indicators.

For the difficult and complex configuration of energy saving function parameters, Powerpilot's green generation application enables automatic configuration of energy saving functions, self identification of multi frequency and multi system coverage, accurate guidance of business identification, on-demand wake-up of cells, and pRRU point control energy saving, ensuring extreme consumption reduction and improving energy efficiency. In the Dalian pilot project, the average duration of network energy saving was increased by 30%, and the network energy saving effect was also improved by 30% without affecting the network KPI and user experience. Currently, ZTE PowePilot has achieved the industry's first AAU automatic start/stop technology, creating a perfect bit-watt curve. By maximizing the extreme hibernation of shutdown, the energy consumption of AAU in zero traffic state can be reduced to less than 5W, which can be achieved only by upgrading the software of commercial equipment in the existing network. This technology has completed commercial scale of over 10000 stations. ZTE's PowerPivot solution has been applied in 900000 site deployments across more than 30 networks worldwide, helping operators reduce carbon emissions by at least 400000 tons per year.
