Dr. Song Dengyuan and Professor Ned jointly signed a joint research and development strategic cooperation agreement between New Energy and UNSW Advanced Photovoltaic Research Center, and jointly launched a research and development project for ultra high efficiency solar cells exceeding 30%.

With the rapid iteration of crystalline silicon solar cells from P-type technology to N-type technology, as a leader in N-type battery technology in China, a new energy N-type double-sided TOPCon technology has developed from 1.0 to 3.0 era, moving towards TOPCon4.0. The maximum efficiency of TOPCon3.0Plus mass production with a new energy source has reached 25.8%, and the laboratory efficiency has reached 26.24%, approaching the theoretical limit of crystalline silicon batteries. To this end, relying on the advantages of its national CNAS photovoltaic research and development laboratory, Yidao New Energy, in collaboration with the Martin Green team of UNSW Advanced Photovoltaic Research Center, a top international photovoltaic research and development institution, jointly launched the research and development project of SFOS ultra efficient new solar cells with an efficiency greater than 30%. Professor Ned stated that the UNSW Advanced Photovoltaic Technology Research Center, under the leadership of Professor Martin Green, has become a highland for global photovoltaic innovation. With the advantages of high-end talents and advanced research and development equipment, UNSW will focus on basic research on new materials and mechanisms for this type of battery; A new energy utilization project has accumulated rich research experience, industrialization experience, and advanced laboratory facilities in TOPCon batteries, focusing on the research of new battery industrialization integration technology and large-scale production technology. Through the efforts of both parties, it is expected that the technological revolution of the new generation battery will be promoted, just as UNSW invented the PERC battery 40 years ago.

It is reported that the SFOS ultra efficient solar cell launched in this project can theoretically achieve a maximum efficiency of over 40%. Its structure is based on a high-efficiency silicon cell structure with new energy exceeding 26% efficiency, and a new photoelectric conversion film material with singlet state fission characteristics is superimposed on the cell surface. The photons incident to the solar spectrum transform the singlet state excitation in the material into two triplet state excited state, forming an exciton multiplication generation process, making the quantum efficiency of the solar cell exceed 100%, so as to realize the wide spectrum utilization of the solar cell, Significantly increase the current and voltage of solar cells. This new type of photoelectric thin film material has a wide range of sources and is easy to deposit. Therefore, SFOS batteries have the advantages of low cost and high efficiency, which is in line with the first principle that photovoltaic as an energy power product should have high cost-effectiveness.
