On May 17, the World Telecommunications and Information Society Day Conference was held in Zhengzhou, Henan Province. The theme of this conference was "Accelerating Digital Transformation in Challenging Times". Deputy Minister of Industry and Information Technology Liu Liehong stated that as of the end of March 2021, my country has built 819,000 5G base stations, accounting for more than 70% of the world, covering all prefecture-level and above cities in the country, and building the world's largest 5G independent networking network.
5G networks are divided into independent networking (SA) and non-independent networking (NSA) two modes. Non-independent networking is a hybrid networking method that connects 5G base stations to the 4G core network by transforming the 4G network in the early stage of 5G construction; independent networking is a completely independent 5G network that can better utilize 5G technical characteristics.
Liu Liehong revealed that 600,000 new 5G base stations are planned to be built in 2021. On the one hand, it will speed up the development of 5G independent networking, and at the same time promote the coordination of mobile and fixed networks "dual gigabit" networks. The "Gigabit City Evaluation Index" document issued by the Ministry of Industry and Information Technology recently pointed out that the density of 5G base stations must reach 12 per 10,000 people, and the gigabit optical bandwidth coverage rate must reach 80%.
As a new basic telecom operator, China Radio and Television also announced at this conference that it will release 5G number segments and launch related packages at the appropriate time.
According to the deployment of the Ministry of Industry and Information Technology, five companies, China Telecom, China Mobile, China Unicom, China Radio and Television and China Tower, jointly launched the "5G Empowering Industry Digitization" joint action at the conference to promote the coordinated development of 5G and empower the digital transformation of the industry.
The 5G action plans released by the five operators involve applications such as cloud computing, industrial big data platforms, 5G information dissemination, and digital towers. The China Academy of Information and Communications Technology predicts that by 2025, 5G will drive about 1.2 trillion yuan in network construction investment, drive 8 trillion yuan in related information consumption, and directly drive economic added value of 2.93 trillion yuan.
Liu Liehong said that 5G international standards are introduced in different versions. Standards are the prerequisite for 5G industrialization and industrialization is the basis for 5G fusion applications. It is necessary to grasp the stage of 5G fusion applications and maintain strategic determination. 5G has a broad prospect for multiplier development, but hard work is required in the process of advancing the digital transformation of the industry. It is necessary to grasp the complexity of 5G converged applications, and multi-party coordinated efforts to overcome difficult battles.
The Ministry of Industry and Information Technology recently released the "5G Application "Sailing" Action Plan (2021-2023)" for soliciting comments, and formulated 8 special actions and 32 specific tasks to coordinate and promote the large-scale development of 5G applications.
Liu Liehong said that 5G is mainly a new technology for industry scenarios. my country is one of the first countries where 5G is commercialized. The application of technology industry has entered no man’s land, especially for integrated applications for industry and the real economy. There is no experience to follow. , It is necessary to grasp the new characteristics of 5G, based on the national conditions, and blaze a path for the development and application of 5G with Chinese characteristics.
