Local Portuguese media reported on Tuesday that Portugal hopes to sign a contract for a new 500 MW floating solar project through a tender to be held in September.
The Portuguese Minister of Environment and Energy Transition Joao Pedro Matos Fernandes announced the news in an interview with the Portuguese newspaper Negocios.
The minister revealed that the government has selected seven reservoirs for future solar arrays and is currently reviewing another ten.
The new tender is different from the previous tender and will not include energy storage. Despite these limitations, these projects still have the advantage of simple construction.
Although the Portuguese government has not yet prequalified interested parties, the Minister of Environment and Energy Transition believes that based on the results of previous tenders, many competitors will participate in the auction.
