2021-06-11

Myanmar has launched a second tender for the construction of 12 solar power projects.

The above-mentioned projects will be constructed in Mandalay, Bago, Magway, Sagaing and Shan State. Each project is expected to produce 20-40 MW of electricity and needs to participate in the bidding before August 11. The winning company will obtain 20 years of operating rights, and each project requires an investment of 20 million to more than 30 million U.S. dollars.

The Myanmar entrepreneur who had participated in the first solar power project bidding stated that in order to attract companies to participate in the bidding, the Ministry of Electricity and Energy of Myanmar called the companies that had participated in the bidding and stated that the bidding exempted the restriction on the need to have solar power generation experience. Able to show an agreement to trade land with farmers, and arrange for the right to work on the land. However, due to the rising prices of raw materials for solar power generation in the international market, most companies are not very interested in the bidding activities.
