Recently, China Academy of Information and Communications Technology released an analysis report on the operation of the domestic mobile phone market in May 2021.

The report shows that in May of this year, 22.968 million mobile phones were shipped in the domestic market. From January to May, the total mobile phone shipments in the domestic market totaled 148 million, a year-on-year increase of 19.3%. Among them, domestic brand mobile phone shipments totaled 131 million units, a year-on-year increase of 16.7%, accounting for 88.0% of mobile phone shipments over the same period, and a total of 166 new models on the market, a year-on-year increase of 11.4%.

Judging from the data in the first five months of this year, the domestic mobile phone market has maintained rapid growth, showing an overall upward trend, among which 5G mobile phones have achieved substantial growth. In May, shipments of 5G mobile phones in the domestic market were 16.739 million units, a year-on-year increase of 7.0%, accounting for 72.9% of mobile phone shipments in the same period; 10 new models were launched, accounting for 37.0% of the number of new mobile phone models launched in the same period.

From January to May, the domestic market shipped 108 million 5G mobile phones, an increase of 134.4% year-on-year, accounting for 72.8% of mobile phone shipments during the same period; 90 new models were launched, accounting for 49.7% of the number of new mobile phone models launched in the same period.
