Japan's machine tool orders soared by more than 90%, hitting a 2-year and 7-month high

Demand for export increased, and Japan's machine tool orders surged by more than 90% in July, setting a new high in 2 years and 7 months.

The Japan Machine Tool Industry Association (JMTBA) released statistics on the 11th, pointing out that the total order value of Japanese machine tools in July 2021 (preliminary valuation, domestic sales + foreign sales) surged by more than 90% from the same month last year (a surge of 93.4%) to 134.974 billion days. This is the 9th consecutive month of growth, and the monthly order volume has broken through the 100 billion yen mark that shows the good or bad condition of orders for the 6th consecutive month, marking a record of 2 years and 7 months (since December 2018, 1,355 Billion yen) to a new high level.

In July, the domestic sales of machine tools in Japan increased by 75.3% from the same month last year to 43.478 billion yen, showing an increase for the fifth consecutive month; the export orders soared by 103.4% to 91.496 billion yen, showing an increase for the ninth consecutive month.

Cumulative Japanese machine tool orders from January to July 2021 increased by 74.5% from the same period last year to 837,061 million yen, of which domestic orders increased by 39.0% to 254,797 million yen, and export orders soared by 96.4% to 582,264 million yen. .

The initial valuation data released by JMTBA will not clearly indicate the order status by country/region, and will not be disclosed until the final value data released after the middle of the year. JMTBA announced on July 28 that Japan’s machine tool orders from China (sold to China) in June 2021 surged by 81.5% from the same month last year to 28.056 billion yen, showing growth for the 13th consecutive month; sales to Taiwan Orders increased by 2.2 times (219.0%) to 3.302 billion yen; machine tool orders sold to North America increased by 66.7% to 24.462 billion yen, showing an increase for the fifth consecutive month, of which orders were sold to the United States. The volume increased by 52.7% to 21.350 billion yen; orders sold to Europe soared 1.9 times (an increase of 192.4%) to 18.157 billion yen, showing an increase for the fifth consecutive month. JMTBA members include Makino, Okuma, OKK, Fanuc, DMG Mori Seiki, Tsugami, Yamazaki Mazak, etc. DMG Mori Seiki and Makino have recently raised their annual financial estimates on the grounds of doubling their orders.
