Strategy Analytics, a market research agency, recently released the report "Winning Replacement Users in the Smartphone Market", which surveyed consumers in China, the United Kingdom, and the United States. The results showed that the global shipments of smartphones exceeded 1.3 billion units each year. In mature markets, 95% of sales come from replacements, which means that first-time purchasers account for less than 5% of smartphones sold in mature markets.

The report also shows that from 2007 to 2013, the market growth stage in North America, Western Europe, Japan, South Korea and China, competition is mainly focused on physical functions and system performance.
A survey conducted by Strategy Analytics on nearly 5,000 consumers in China, the United States and the United Kingdom shows that there are five main behavior/attitude patterns for smartphone replacement decisions, namely:
Brand lovers (accounting for 12%);
Low-priced and practical (accounting for 16%);
Status-hungry people (23%);
Technology enthusiasts (24%);
Value maximizer (accounting for 25%).
The report also shows that the average replacement cycle of the British group is 38 months, the average replacement cycle of the United States is 41 months, and the average replacement cycle of China is 28 months.
