International trade export of PV modules is expected to maintain growth

2022-11-07

"By the end of September, the company had exported 6.98 billion yuan of PV modules and other products in international trade, up 25.6% year on year." Recently, Xu Yifeng, the deputy general manager of Trina Solar (Suqian) Technology Co., Ltd., said that under the tension of energy supply caused by the wave of energy transformation and international conflicts, the global demand for renewable energy such as photovoltaic continued to rise, and the international trade and export of photovoltaic modules remained optimistic.

It is understood that photovoltaic modules, commonly known as solar panels, are the core part of the solar power generation system. Its role is to convert solar energy into electric energy, or send it to storage battery for storage, or promote load work. Its application fields include solar power supply for users, photovoltaic power plants, solar buildings, etc.

The World Energy Outlook 2022 report released by the International Energy Agency (IEA) on October 27 shows that the soaring energy prices caused by the Russian Ukrainian conflict have promoted investment in renewable energy. Based on the latest measures and policies announced by governments, the International Energy Agency predicts that global clean energy investment will increase by more than 50% by 2030.

"As an important clean energy, solar energy has multiple advantages in power generation." Xu Yifeng said that, first, the amount of solar energy is sufficient and environmental protection. Solar energy is inexhaustible, which neither requires transportation nor pollutes the ecological environment; Second, it is safe and reliable, no noise, no radiation, no fuel consumption, and long service life; Third, the power supply system is simple to install, convenient to maintain, and cost-effective; Fourth, the voltage is stable and the power supply quality is high, which can be widely used in various electrical equipment, especially in rural areas, farms, forests, rivers, lakes, highways and other remote places. It is a very excellent emergency backup power supply.

Earlier, at the press conference on ecological civilization construction held by the National Development and Reform Commission, Liu Dechun, director of the Department of Resource Conservation and Environmental Protection of the National Development and Reform Commission, said that China will lead the world in new energy industry in 2021, providing more than 70% of photovoltaic modules for the global market.

According to the statistics of the National Energy Administration, in the first half of this year, the demand of overseas photovoltaic market continued to be strong, the volume and price of photovoltaic products rose at the same time, and the export volume of international trade reached a new high. Among them, the total export of photovoltaic products (silicon chips, battery chips and modules) was about 25.9 billion US dollars, up 113% year on year; The export volume of PV modules reached 78.6 GW, with a year-on-year growth of 74.3%.

In Xu Yifeng's view, the rapid growth of international trade exports of photovoltaic modules benefited from three aspects: first, demand driven innovation. Under the general trend of global energy green transformation, the continuous growth of photovoltaic demand has driven domestic enterprises to continuously increase investment and technological innovation in the module sector in recent years. In the past 10 years, the production cost of photovoltaic products has continued to decline, and the degree of automation and digitization has continued to increase. Second, clustering accelerates competition. With the rapid growth of China's PV module production capacity, the national module market has gradually moved from decentralized development to large-scale and clustered development, and the industry concentration has continued to increase, thus improving the comprehensive competitiveness of China's solar module industry. Third, policies support development. In recent years, the state has issued relevant laws and regulations to vigorously promote the development of new energy enterprises.

"Suqian City, Jiangsu Province has provided a good business environment for the development of new energy enterprises. The government departments have paid high attention to enterprises and have been actively solving problems encountered by enterprises." Xu Yifeng said that, taking the customs as an example, under the guidance of Suqian customs, Trina Solar (Suqian) Technology Co., Ltd. became an AEO senior certification enterprise last year, which has gained more convenience and benefits in reducing the rate of document review and goods inspection, speeding up customs clearance, giving priority to inspection, and reducing trade costs.

In addition, Suqian Customs has also established an enterprise coordinator system, strengthened the guidance on the application of preferential rules of origin, and helped enterprises to accurately understand the relevant information about their own import and export goods, so as to better enjoy the dividend of tariff concessions under the Free Trade Agreement, strive for the "full enjoyment" of relevant free trade agreement tariff preferences, and improve the competitiveness of export products in overseas markets. "From January to September 2022, the company will issue 256 certificates of origin, with a visa amount of 106.4813 million US dollars." Xu Yifeng said.

As a province with a large output of photovoltaic products in China, Jiangsu Province has made remarkable achievements in the export of solar cells. Relevant officials of Nanjing Customs said that in the first three quarters, the export of mechanical and electrical products of Jiangsu Province was 1.72 trillion yuan, an increase of 12.6%, accounting for 65.8% of the total export value of Jiangsu Province. Among them, the export of solar cells, a representative product of the new energy industry, was 77.64 billion yuan, up 71%. The export volume of solar cells in Jiangsu Province accounts for more than 30% of the total export volume of solar cells in China, ranking first in the country.

Xu Yifeng said that when the company's orders were adjusted this year, Trina Solar (Suqian) Technology Co., Ltd.'s overseas orders accounted for about 30% of all orders, mainly exported to India, the Netherlands, Japan, the United Arab Emirates, Chile and other countries, accounting for 33.71%, 24.26%, 6.53%, 4.74% and 4.71% of the company's international trade exports respectively.

It is worth noting that although photovoltaic and other new energy industries are facing good development opportunities, they are also facing certain challenges. "The rising cost, the shortage of supply, the risk of goods delivery and the frequent occurrence of trade frictions also challenge the export of photovoltaic products." Xu Yifeng said.

Speaking of expectations, Xu Yifeng said that now the company's global cumulative shipment has exceeded 100 GW. In the future, it is necessary to seize the opportunity and make steady progress to create a steady stream of green power for customers in more than 100 countries and regions across seven continents.
