2021 Q1 global mobile phone industry profits exceed 100 million U.S. dollars, with Apple accounting

2021-05-26

There are signs that the global economy is beginning to recover from the shadow of the new crown epidemic, and one of these signs is the smartphone industry. According to the latest report released by Counterpoint Research, a market research organization, the global smartphone industry's profit in the first quarter of this year exceeded $100 million.

In the press release, Counterpoint senior analyst Harmeet Singh Walia said: "The global smartphone sector’s wholesale shipment revenue in the first quarter reached a record US$113 billion, a year-on-year increase of 35%. This is when the industry is facing supply chain constraints. Happened. With the strong performance of the iPhone 12 series and the demand overflow caused by the delayed launch, Apple’s sales in the first quarter set a new record.”

Counterpoint Research shared its revenue in the first quarter of 2021. Apple’s smartphone lineup is more popular than expected. The iPhone 12 series has a competitive advantage in terms of sales profit and sales volume. The iPhone 12 is the best-selling smartphone with a 5% market share, while the iPhone 12 Pro Max ranks second with a 4% share, and the iPhone 12 Pro ranks third with a 3% share. iPhone 11 and Redmi 9A tied for fourth with 2%, and no other mobile phone exceeded 1%. It should be noted that these are global sales data.

The ranking in terms of profit is basically the same. The iPhone 12 Pro Max surpasses the iPhone 12 (11%) with a 12% share. The iPhone 12 Pro Max is $300 more expensive than the standard model, so this is not surprising. Samsung's performance on this list is also slightly impressive. The Galaxy S21 Ultra 5G climbed to fifth place with a 3% revenue share, but compared with Apple's unparalleled iPhone lineup, every supplier is once again dwarfed.

The press release also mentioned some other interesting content. For example, high-end models are more popular in the US market. Phone 12 Pro Max and Galaxy S21 Ultra 5G are the most popular models by Apple and Samsung respectively. In addition, iPhone 11 and iPhone SE are the only two models on the list that do not have 5G.

Research analyst Varun Mishra wrote: "Unlike the revenue list, the devices on the sales list also come from the people-friendly mobile phone market. The high sales of Redmi 9A are mainly driven by the Chinese and Indian markets, but it is also very good in the Southeast Asian market. The strong performance of Redmi 9A, Redmi 9 and Redmi Note 9 helped Xiaomi maintain its pillar position in the global price range of less than US$150, gaining a 19% share in this field.”
