From January to May 2021, the total value of import and export of goods trade in Shanxi Province was 90.46 billion yuan (RMB, the same below), an increase of 110.3% year-on-year, and the growth rate ranked first in the country. Among them, exports were 56.11 billion yuan, a year-on-year increase of 125.8%; imports were 34.35 billion yuan, a year-on-year increase of 89%.

Processing trade is the main mode of trade in Shanxi Province and has grown exponentially, general trade has grown rapidly, and imports by bonded logistics have continued to grow. In the first five months of 2021, Shanxi's processing trade import and export amounted to 58.22 billion yuan, an increase of 180.2% year-on-year; general trade import and export amounted to 28.41 billion yuan, an increase of 37.5% year-on-year; during the same period, bonded logistics imports and exports (mainly imports) were 3.25 billion yuan .

Both the import and export of foreign-invested enterprises and private enterprises have doubled. In the first five months of 2021, the import and export of foreign-invested enterprises in Shanxi Province was 51.97 billion yuan, a year-on-year increase of 146%, accounting for 57.4% of the province’s total foreign trade value; the import and export of state-owned enterprises was 14.36 billion yuan, a year-on-year increase of 23.2%. 24.07 billion yuan, a year-on-year increase of 135.5%.

Among the main export commodities, mobile phone exports have grown rapidly and accounted for over 60% of the total. The exports of integrated circuit parts, mobile phone parts (except antennas), solar cells, and anti-epidemic gloves have grown rapidly. From January to May 2021, Shanxi Province exported 45.04 billion yuan of mechanical and electrical products, a year-on-year increase of 171.1%, accounting for 80.3% of the province’s total export value. Among them, the export of mobile phone parts (except antennas) was 1.47 billion yuan, an increase of 99.5% year-on-year; the export of solar cells was 34.807 million with a value of 750 million yuan.

During the same period, the export of pharmaceutical materials and medicines was 1.07 billion yuan, a year-on-year increase of 39%; the export of clothing and clothing accessories (mainly plastic gloves and vulcanized rubber gloves) was 1.06 billion yuan, a year-on-year increase of 914.6%; the export of plastic products was 430 million yuan, a year-on-year increase 582.7%.

Among the main imported goods, the import of integrated circuits has doubled, the import of ferroalloys has decreased in price, and the import of metallurgical raw materials such as minerals has increased and decreased. From January to May 2021, Shanxi Province imported 620 million integrated circuits with a value of 12.05 billion yuan, a year-on-year increase of 78.9% and 148.9% respectively.

In terms of international trade, Shanxi's imports and exports with its major trading partners, the United States, Japan, ASEAN, BRICS, and the European Union, have increased substantially, and imports and exports to countries and regions along the “Belt and Road” have doubled. In the first five months of 2021, Shanxi's imports and exports to the United States were 16.16 billion yuan, a year-on-year increase of 96.7%; imports and exports to Japan were 10.43 billion yuan, a year-on-year increase of 206.2%; imports and exports to ASEAN were 9.45 billion yuan, a year-on-year increase of 122.8%; The import and export of the brick-and-mortar countries was 9.11 billion yuan, a year-on-year increase of 99.3%; the import and export to the EU was 8.93 billion yuan, an increase of 124.9%.

In addition, Shanxi Province's imports and exports to countries and regions along the “Belt and Road” reached 21.6 billion yuan, a year-on-year increase of 129%.

In the first five months of 2021, Foxconn and TISCO together accounted for 67.1% of Shanxi's total foreign trade value. Foxconn (Taiyuan) Science and Technology Industrial Park is the largest foreign-invested enterprise introduced by Shanxi Province and the core enterprise of Shanxi Transformation and Comprehensive Reform Demonstration Zone.
