On June 18, Chongqing Customs announced that from January to May this year, the total value of Chongqing’s foreign trade imports and exports was 304.77 billion yuan, a year-on-year increase of 39.9%. In May, Chongqing’s foreign trade imports and exports amounted to 58.86 billion yuan, a year-on-year increase of 13.2%; exports were 36.55 billion yuan, a year-on-year increase of 10.5%, and imports were 22.31 billion yuan, a year-on-year increase of 18%.
According to the relevant person in charge of Chongqing Customs, from January to May this year, Chongqing's foreign trade has two major characteristics. First, the import and export of general trade increased significantly. Chongqing's general trade import and export was 105.62 billion yuan, a year-on-year increase of 78.3%. Second, the import and export of private enterprises and state-owned enterprises both grew rapidly. The import and export of private enterprises in Chongqing was 131.97 billion yuan, an increase of 82% year-on-year; the import and export of state-owned enterprises was 28.8 billion yuan, an increase of 60.6%. At the same time, the import and export of foreign-invested enterprises was 143.69 billion yuan, a year-on-year increase of 13.1%.
In terms of specific products, notebook computers and integrated circuits are still the “main force” of Chongqing’s exports. From January to May, Chongqing’s exports of notebook computers and integrated circuits were 72.33 billion yuan and 13.07 billion yuan, an increase of 28.3% and 35.4% respectively. In terms of trading partners, ASEAN is still Chongqing’s largest trading partner. From January to May, Chongqing’s imports and exports to ASEAN, the EU, and the United States were 49.55 billion yuan, 46.93 billion yuan, and 44.97 billion yuan, representing a year-on-year increase of 23.9%, 31.4%, 43.8%, maintaining a good foreign trade momentum.
