Sources say that dedicated DRAM and NOR flash memory chips will still be in short supply next year

2021-10-26

On October 25th, according to the Taiwan Electronic Times, industry sources said that due to supply constraints, the supply of dedicated DRAM and NOR flash memory chips will continue to be in short supply in 2022. Samsung Electronics and SK Hynix have drastically cut their DRAM production due to their exit from the low-density field. The average DRAM price may start to rebound from the second half of 2022.

Elite Semiconductor Memory Technology (ESMT), a dedicated DRAM developer, said the company expects its sales to peak in the third quarter of 2022.

ESMT said that although demand is negatively affected by the shortage of non-memory ICs, upstream foundries are still required to sign long-term contracts with dedicated DRAM manufacturers. In addition, ESMT said that NOR flash memory will also have a tight supply next year, prompting related design companies and downstream equipment companies to also reach long-term supply agreements with fabs.
