On May 19, the Canadian government, citing the so-called national security, announced that the Canadian telecommunications system was prohibited from using the products and services of Huawei and ZTE, and said that this was a decision made after the evaluation of the Canadian Security Department and consultation with franchisees. The spokesman of the Chinese Embassy in Canada issued a statement on this day, expressing serious concern and strong dissatisfaction.
The embassy spokesman stressed that Canada's above-mentioned wrong practices will certainly damage Canada's international image and its own interests. China will make a comprehensive and serious assessment of this incident and take all necessary measures to safeguard the legitimate rights and interests of Chinese enterprises. A spokesman for the Chinese Embassy in Canada said that the Chinese government has always required Chinese enterprises to carry out foreign economic cooperation on the basis of abiding by international rules and local laws. Huawei and ZTE have always maintained a very good network security record. In the absence of any conclusive evidence, Canada decided to exclude relevant Chinese enterprises from the Canadian market on the grounds of so-called national security, which seriously generalized the concept of national security, violated the principles of market economy and free trade rules, and damaged the legitimate rights and interests of Chinese enterprises. Canada claims that it has consulted with its allies on the above decision, which is to cooperate with the United States to suppress Chinese enterprises. Canada's so-called "security" considerations are just a cover for political manipulation.
Shang Pengfei, Minister of innovation, science and industry of Canada, announced on the 19th that the Canadian government would prohibit the integration of Huawei and ZTE products and services into Canada's telecommunications system. Telecom companies operating in Canada will no longer be allowed to use the designated equipment or services provided by Huawei and ZTE.
According to the plan officially announced by Canada, any existing 5g equipment and management services of Huawei and ZTE must be dismantled or terminated before June 28, 2024; The existing 4G equipment and management services must be dismantled or terminated before December 31, 2027. Canadian officials expect that telecom service providers will stop purchasing new 4G or 5g equipment and related services from the above two companies before September 1 this year. The Canadian government also plans to impose similar restrictions on gigabit passive optical network equipment used in optical fiber networks.
According to the Canadian government, Huawei and ZTE have been excluded from the "sensitive areas" of 3G / 4G and LTE networks. Canadian officials also plan to amend the telecommunications law to allow the use of equipment and services from designated suppliers to be prohibited when necessary, so as to "improve the security of telecommunications systems".
Prior to this, other countries of the "five eyes alliance" - Australia, New Zealand, the United Kingdom and the United States have banned or restricted Huawei's access to its 5g network.
