According to data recently released by market research agency Counterpoint, Chinese brands such as Huawei, OPPO, vivo and Xiaomi will determine the future direction of China's folding screen smartphone market. In the second half of 2022, Huawei, OPPO and Xiaomi are expected to launch new folding screen smartphones and continue to provide growth momentum for the segment.

According to statistics, the sales volume of China's folding screen smartphone market in the first quarter of 2022 was 670,000 units, a year-on-year increase of 391% and a month-on-month increase of 152%. As the sales of folding-screen smartphones maintained their growth momentum in April and May, shipments of the Chinese folding-screen smartphone market are expected to increase by 225% year-on-year in 2022 to reach 2.7 million units.

From the perspective of manufacturers, from January to May 2022, China's folding screen market sales show that Huawei accounted for 50% of China's folding screen sales, followed by Samsung accounted for 20%, OPPO and Xiaomi ranked third and fourth.

Counterpoint said that between January 2022 and May 2022, folding screen phones accounted for about 7% of smartphone sales in China, and it is expected that at least 4-5 new foldable products will be launched in the second half of 2022.

In addition, judging from the sales trend from January to May 2022, the horizontal folding screen smartphone accounted for about 77% of the sales. With the release of the new vertical folding screen smartphone, with the price advantage and volume advantage, in 2022 In half a year, the share of vertical folding screen smartphones will exceed 50%.
