Watson & Band Import and Export Data Observation reported that on September 22, with the continuous development of AR technology, many manufacturers have launched their own AR headsets. The AR headset market is set to shrink this year after the previous two years of growth. The import and export data analysis agency released its latest analysis report on the AR headset market, which stated that AR headset devices will take several years to develop further.
Global AR headset market shipments will drop 8.7% this year to 260,000 units, and surge to 4.1 million units in 2026
Huacheng Import and Export Data Observation reported that by the end of 2022, the shipments of the global AR head display market will drop by 8.7% year-on-year to about 260,000 units. The report pointed out that although the decline seems to be abrupt for a new technology such as AR, in fact, due to the unstable financial situation of some leading companies, the lack of new devices and consumer demand, AR on mobile phones will be replaced in the short term by AR on mobile phones. As a result, shipments of AR headsets have been declining in recent quarters.
Although the AR head display market will shrink in 2022, as IDC expects a compound annual growth rate (CAGR) of 70.3% in the next five years, the AR head display market will continue to grow in the future. By the end of 2026, AR headset shipments will reach 4.1 million units. According to Jitesh Ubrani, research manager of IDC Mobile and Consumer Device Tracking, it is still a few years before consumers buy AR headsets on a large scale, and the earliest AR headsets are expected to become mainstream consumption as early as late 2024 or early 2025.
In the first half of this year, the top five AR headset manufacturers were Microsoft, Rokid, Shadow Creator, MAD Gaze, and RealWear. However, as more and more manufacturers enter the AR headset market and tech giants such as Apple and Meta pay more attention to AR, the future market pattern of AR headsets will undergo major changes.
According to a report from Strategy Analytics, the revenue of the consumer AR terminal market will triple between 2020 and 2021. Nreal is an early leader in this field, and its shipments will reach 75% of the market in 2021, rising to 81% in the first half of 2022, Watson & Band Data Observation reports.
