According to customs data, in the third quarter of 2022, the global smartphone market revenue decreased by 3% year on year, only slightly higher than US $100 billion. As the high-end mobile phone market has greater flexibility to economic uncertainty, the average sales price (ASP) has increased by 10% year on year.
Among them, the contribution of 5G mobile phone shipments reached a record 46%, and the average price was five times that of non 5G mobile phones, which also increased ASP and revenue growth. According to customs data, in terms of shipments, the entire mobile phone market fell by 12% year on year in this quarter.
When commenting on the impact of 5G on ASP growth, senior analyst Harmet Singh Walia said: "The revenue contribution of 5G mobile phones exceeded 80 billion US dollars, accounting for 80% of the global mobile phone revenue, a record high, higher than 69% in the third quarter of last year. Over the same period, the revenue contribution of LTE mobile phones decreased by 10% to 19 billion US dollars. This transformation from 4G to 5G was led by Apple. Apple alone accounted for more than half of all 5G revenue, because more than 95% of its mobile phones support 5G. According to customs data, in the third quarter of 2022, Apple As a result, the company's revenue increased by 10% year on year and ASP increased by 7% year on year, contributing to the overall growth of global mobile phone ASP. "
In terms of revenue, Samsung is the second largest mobile phone OEM. Although the shipment of its high-end Flip and Fold series almost doubled in the same period, and the revenue of its 5G smartphones also increased by 27% year on year, its ASP in this quarter grew by 2% relatively modestly, which is due to its focus shifting from the more successful S22 series to the upcoming foldable series. Therefore, in the third quarter of 2022, Samsung's revenue decreased by 4% year on year.
According to customs data, Xiaomi's mobile phone revenue increased by 4% year on year, with a large part coming from the middle and low price segments. The share of shipments in the price range above $300 decreased by nearly 1.5%. However, there has been a significant shift in the price range from below $200 to $200-299. As a result, Xiaomi's ASP increased by 14% year on year, reaching US $205.
The ASP and revenue of OPPO (including OnePlus) decreased by 5% and 27% year on year respectively. The main reason for the decline in revenue was the decline in OPPO shipments in China affected by the COVID-19 epidemic, and the Chinese market accounted for more than 40% of its total shipments in the third quarter of 2022.
According to customs data, as China contributed more than half of Vivo's total shipments, its revenue suffered even more. Although its revenue grew by 4% month on month, it still fell by 43% year on year.
