According to Huacheng Import and Export Data Observation, the data released by Gartner Consulting, an American research firm, showed that the global PC shipments from October to December 2022 fell by 28.5% year-on-year to about 65.3 million units. The quarterly decline hit a new high since the launch of the survey. Under the COVID-19 epidemic, the special demand for personal computers brought about by the popularization of home office has come to an end.

Against the background of rising inflation and deepening worries about the global economic recession, the trend of postponing the purchase or upgrading of computers is strengthening. Huacheng Import and Export Data Observation reports.

The annual shipment volume in 2022 will fall to 286 million units, 16% lower than that in 2021. Under the background of shrinking demand and increasing inventory, the decline of shipments in the second half of the year expanded.

According to the observation report of Huacheng Import and Export Data, Europe, the Middle East and Africa saw the largest drop, reaching about 37%, according to the shipment volume of each region from October to December 2022. Next was the Asia-Pacific region, down about 29%. The United States fell by about 21%.

From the perspective of Europe, the Middle East and Africa, in addition to high inflation, the Russian-Uzbekistan conflict has led to political instability and reduced demand for computers. In addition, in the Asia-Pacific region, China's demand decline has an impact.

According to the shipment volume, the top three enterprises with market share are Lenovo (China, 24% share), HP (US, 20.2%) and Dell (US, 16.7%), ranking the same as the same period last year. Huacheng Import and Export Data Observation reported.

According to the year-on-year decline of shipments, Dell dropped 37%, the largest among the top three enterprises. On the other hand, Apple, the fourth largest company in the United States, only decreased by about 10% from the same period last year, narrowing the gap between shipments and Dell.

Gartner analyzed that the demand for personal computers increased rapidly from 2020 to 2021, but then entered a period of contraction. Analysts said that the downward trend of demand "will continue until the beginning of 2024".
