Seven Points of Experience on Using Customs Data

2023-03-09

Many foreign trade newcomers have sent me a private letter asking me the question of "customs data". The most common question is: Is the data useful? For the same tool, those who can use it think it is very useful, while those who can't use it think it is a waste of money. The same is true for customs data here. So I think before judging whether it is useful or not, we should reflect on whether we have used it correctly?

I have used customs data intermittently for 4 years. When I first used it, like many newcomers, I only looked at email, sent development letters, and other replies, with little effect. However, I soon found that there must be a problem with this usage. I began to work hard to change my mind, and then slowly gained orders from it. Here are my seven points of use experience, which should help you understand it in depth and use it correctly:

1. Through the customs data, you can get the "real buyers who have demand for their own products" through the key word one-click search. It has to be said that it is faster and faster than any other development method.

2. The customs data can be used to analyze these purchasers, analyze their purchase volume, purchase cycle, product specifications, etc., and see if they match their own supply capacity. Focus on the development of relatively matched buyers, which can save time and improve the success rate.

3. Don't use the contact information of customs data. First, filter out the freight forwarders, and then use the mailbox checking tool to check whether the mailbox is available and accessible. Because some mailboxes may have been cancelled, you can avoid doing useless work.

4. Use customs data in combination with Google search and foreign social platforms. You can search the enterprise names of the selected buyers in Google, Facebook, and Linkedin to find more contact information and enterprise related information, which will help improve the success rate of the development letter.

5. The export data of competitors in the same industry can be seen in the customs data, and they can be monitored. Every year, there are closed foreign trade enterprises or factories that can take advantage of the opportunity to enter and receive their customers, with a high success rate. In 16 years, I developed three new customers through this method.

6. If you have an old customer who has been cooperating with you, you can also monitor it with data, and you will find that you can see how many goods he has purchased from others, how much he has purchased, specifications, packaging, etc. As long as you analyze it carefully, you can find some breakthroughs and let him actively add orders.

7. Customs data can also be used to develop new markets. As the current trade war is so hot, if we used to focus on the American market, we should now consider developing another market. You can use the data to query and compare which countries import more of your products. In order to change the new market, everything should start from scratch. The customs data can quickly help you find buyers in the new market, which is very useful.

Mastering the correct usage of customs data can help you give full play to the data. However, if the data you get is inaccurate and untimely, it will also affect its use effect. Therefore, you must pay more attention to it when purchasing data.
