2023-03-17

According to customs data from the Ukrainian Exporters' Union, Uruguay's total exports, including the Free Trade Zone, in 2022 were 13.356 billion US dollars, a year-on-year increase of 16.5%, reaching a record high. In December, the monthly export volume exceeded 792 million US dollars, a year-on-year decrease of 12%. According to customs data, exports increased continuously from January to August, but they have continued to decline since September. The export growth in 2022 was mainly due to the rise in international prices of some commodities in the first half of the year, which successfully offset the decline in the next four months.

The decrease in the total export volume of Ukrainian goods in December was mainly due to the continuous decrease in China's imports. Exports to China in that month amounted to 125.8 million US dollars, a year-on-year decrease of 53.2%, mainly due to a significant decrease in exports of beef, dairy products, and living animals. Brazil returned to the top of the month, with exports to it of $155.1 million in the same month, a year-on-year increase of 37%, including a significant increase in dairy products. According to customs data, the fastest growing export destination in December was India, which imported a large amount of timber. In terms of products, meat exports still ranked first, but decreased by 37% year-on-year.

According to Ukrainian customs data, in 2022, China continued to become the largest buyer of Ukrainian goods, but the total amount increased by only 1% year-on-year, with the largest increase being in soybeans. Brazil ranked second, with a year-on-year increase of 4.7%. Its main products were automobiles and dairy products. Argentina ranked third, with a year-on-year increase of 117.6%. Imports of soybeans, electricity, and automobiles increased significantly. By product category, the largest export volume was beef, reaching US $2.8987 billion, a year-on-year increase of 2.1%. According to customs data, soybeans were second, with a year-on-year increase of 101.9%, at $2.1288 billion. Wood, dairy products, and grains rank from three to five.
