Content of customs data

2023-03-23

The first step in international trade is to understand the trade information of both buyers and sellers. In the era of big data, companies that can make full use of data will be easier to stand out in the fierce competition. For foreign trade companies, foreign trade data is one of the most valuable data, enabling companies to gain a deep understanding of their market conditions from multiple dimensions (such as market, buyers, and peers).

Today we will look at "What is the content of customs data?"?

Customs data has a long history. In 1966, the United States released the world's first foreign trade data. Since then, foreign trade data have gradually been used in international trade, financial loans, international logistics, and other fields, improving the efficiency of international trade. The accuracy of international investment and international investment has promoted the development of trade among countries.

Since the reform and opening up, the scale of trade has continuously expanded. The competent foreign trade department has gradually opened up from state-owned foreign trade enterprises to general enterprises and private enterprises. More and more people are beginning to invest in the boom of foreign trade transactions between suppliers and buyers. The problem of information mismatch has gradually emerged. The blockage of foreign trade transaction information has led many foreign traders to seek open foreign trade data sources. In the 1990s, China began to introduce foreign trade transaction data, and service providers have successively joined the foreign trade data service industry.

Content of customs data

Customs data refers to various import and export statistical data generated by the customs when implementing the import and export trade statistics function, including bill of lading data and customs status data.

In international trade, each buyer and seller of international goods transportation needs to declare their trade products to the exporting and importing countries respectively. The content of customs declaration is customs data, and each transaction will generate two transactions. The data are stored in the customs of the importing and exporting countries, respectively.

For example, if the air ticket is exported to the goods from China under FOB terms in the United States, the Chinese seller will declare the export to the Chinese customs, and the Chinese customs will record the export information of the goods. This information is referred to as customs data; At the same time, buyers in the United States will also declare their imports to the United States Customs, which will record the import information of the goods on this ticket. This information is called bill of lading country data.

The bill of lading country/region data can display the transaction fields of both parties, while the customs data does not contain "exporter" information.

Currently, there are 74 countries/regions that open customs bills of lading and customs data. Due to the different customs policies and content submitted by import and export companies in each country, the type and core content of import and export data in each country are not completely consistent.

The amount of original import and export data is huge, and the information is chaotic. Service providers also process the original data differently, so the final display format varies. Currently, there are two main ways to provide bill of lading data in the market: one is to download the original bill of lading data Excel table sent through email online; The other is online download. The second is to conduct online data system queries based on specific needs.
