2023-03-27

According to Huacheng Import and Export Data Observation, the third China Cross Border E-commerce Fair was held in Fuzhou from March 18th to 20th. In addition to the appearance of more than 60 characteristic industries in more than 20 provinces and cities, the fair also saw the collective appearance of several internationally renowned platforms in the industry, such as Amazon Global Store, eBay, Wal Mart from Europe and the United States, many American customers from South America, and Jiku from Africa.

In addition to "old friends", this cross-border e-commerce fair has added many "new faces". It includes the world's largest online clothing, clothing, and daily necessities retail e-commerce platform, Germany OTTO, the largest full-category e-commerce platform in France, Cdiscount, the largest daily and household e-commerce platform in western South America, Falabella, Chile, and Kupeng, a popular group purchase e-commerce platform in South Korea.

A multitude of "outsiders" have come in droves, including some mysteries. As a new force in China's foreign trade, cross-border e-commerce has a magnetic attraction effect due to its full vitality. China's comprehensive cross-border e-commerce pilot zones are gradually expanding from eastern and southern coastal areas to inland provinces, extending from central cities and provincial capitals to second and third tier cities. Currently, 165 comprehensive cross-border e-commerce pilot zones cover 31 provinces across the country, forming a development pattern of land, sea, and domestic linkage, and mutual assistance between east and west. According to the report released by iMedia Consulting, China's cross-border e-commerce market share is expected to continue to grow, with the market size expected to reach 2.95 trillion yuan in 2024, and its share in the global e-commerce market (excluding China) is expected to increase from 8.6% in 2021 to 13.1%, according to Huacheng Import and Export Data Observation.

Lin Feng, Business Development Manager for eBay Greater China, said that in recent years, the sales of automotive and motorcycle accessories, home gardening products, outdoor sports and other products on the platform have shown a good growth trend, and they are very confident in the Chinese market.

According to Huacheng Import and Export Data Observation, in the past year, Chinese sellers have sold billions of items to global consumers through Amazon's 18 major sites. Brand sellers have performed particularly well, with the number of Chinese brand sellers on Amazon increasing nearly threefold in the past three years. These branded sellers have achieved double-digit sales growth over the past year. Chinese sellers have shown a trend of diversification in product categories, technological innovation, shipping sites, brand categories, and business types.

"Cross border e-commerce" has been included in the "Government Work Report" for 10 consecutive years, demonstrating China's determination to steadily and high-quality promote the development of foreign trade, which has brought more confidence and ideas to foreign cross-border e-commerce. Not long ago, Amazon launched a 2023 strategic focus for global store opening in China, including broadening supply chain solutions, deepening the entire process of new selection solutions, developing a global shipping path for light brands, and strengthening localized services. At the same time, it was announced that Amazon opened its global store and the first comprehensive seller training center in Asia was officially opened in Hangzhou.

According to Huacheng Import and Export Data Observation, in 2022, China's cross-border e-commerce import and export reached 2.11 trillion yuan, a year-on-year increase of 9.8%. Among them, exports reached 1.55 trillion yuan, up 11.7% year-on-year. "The rise of cross-border e-commerce has helped companies build international brands more efficiently through lightweight investment, data based operations, and direct docking with global customers." Amazon Global Vice President and Amazon Global Asia Pacific CEO recently stated that these figures have shown them that the basic situation of China's foreign trade is relatively stable and that resilience is strong, which are the foundation for addressing new challenges.
