What is customs data?

Customs data refers to various import and export statistical data generated by the customs in performing the import and export trade statistics function. The task of customs statistics is to investigate, analyze, and supervise import and export goods, and provide statistical services. The customs will regularly issue import and export statistics, early warning and monitoring data.

Customs data is divided into three categories

1. China Customs Export Data: Chinese export data collected, classified, and analyzed by data companies based on customs codes.

2. Import data of the customs of the importing country: Import data collected, classified, and analyzed by the data company according to the customs code of the importing country.

3. Market research data of destination countries: Data companies collect and analyze data on the market of destination countries.

What does customs data statistics include?

1. Statistical scope

Customs statistics include goods actually entering and exiting the customs territory of the People's Republic of China. Goods imported and exported from bonded warehouses, bonded areas or special economic zones, goods imported and exported from processing trade, leased trade goods with a lease term of one year or more, goods imported and exported by foreign-invested enterprises, materials for international free assistance, and donations are all included in customs statistics. Customs data statistics do not include temporary import and export goods, leased inbound and outbound goods with a lease term of less than one year, personal belongings of inbound and outbound passengers (excluding automobiles), fuel, materials, and food added overseas by inbound and outbound transportation vehicles, and direct transit goods passing through Chinese territory.

2. Statistical Price

Imported goods are counted on the basis of CIF, while exported goods are counted on the basis of FOB. The customs statistical prices are calculated in RMB and USD respectively.

3. Statistical country (region)

The statistics of imported goods include the country of origin (place), and the statistics of exported goods include the final destination country (place).

4. Statistical time

Import and export goods are counted according to the date of customs release.

5. Statistical data sources and statistical items

The original data for customs statistics is the "Import and Export Goods Declaration Form" actually supervised by the customs. The statistical items include the variety, quantity, price, country (region), business unit, domestic destination, domestic source of goods, trade mode, transportation mode, customs, etc. of import and export commodities.
