On February 2nd, the State Council Office of the People's Republic of China held a press conference on the business work and operation situation for 2022. Li Xingqian, Director of the Department of Foreign Trade of the Ministry of Commerce, stated that entering 2023, the global economic and trade situation has become extremely severe, and downward pressure has significantly increased. The main contradiction in China's foreign trade sector has shifted from last year's supply chain obstruction and insufficient contractual capacity to the current weakening of external demand and a decrease in foreign trade orders, which is an important change.

Li Xingqian introduced that the Ministry of Commerce has made it clear that it fully supports foreign trade enterprises in seizing foreign trade orders and expanding the market. Prioritize the strengthening of trade promotion and close supply procurement coordination, and fully support foreign trade enterprises in seizing foreign trade orders and expanding the market. We need to do four things well for foreign trade enterprises.

Firstly, restore the physical exhibition. To implement the deployment of the State Council executive meeting on January 28th and promote the comprehensive resumption of offline exhibitions for domestic trade exhibitions, we need to host a series of key exhibitions that are familiar to everyone, such as the China International Import and Export Fair, the Canton Fair, and the China International High tech Achievement Fair.

Secondly, make good use of the new business format. Promote the further development of new formats such as cross-border e-commerce and overseas warehouses that have rapidly developed in recent years, fully utilize digital means to tap into trade potential, and drive the export of small and medium-sized foreign trade enterprises.

Thirdly, explore new needs. Give full play to the role of business institutions of foreign embassies and consulates, and assist local organizations to organize enterprises to carry out trade cooperation overseas. We need to strengthen research on international segmented markets, timely share supply and demand information from various markets, and help enterprises obtain foreign trade orders in a timely manner.

Fourthly, support enterprises in "going global". Provide more convenience for cross-border business transactions of foreign trade enterprises, support enterprises to promote Chinese products, Chinese manufacturing, and Chinese brands in various ways, and support regions with conditions to expand the scale of overseas exhibitions.
