Continuing the Millennium Friendship, China Ukraine International Trade Cooperation Blooms with Pros

2023-05-25

The two heads of state exchanged in-depth views on China Ukraine relations, cooperation in various fields, and international and regional issues of common concern, and reached broad consensus. In the future, China and Ukraine will expand international trade and mutually beneficial cooperation, consolidate friendship and partnership, and practice a community of shared future at the bilateral level.

Close partnership and mutual assistance

In recent years, China and Ukraine have always adhered to mutual support on issues related to each other's core interests, assisted each other in promoting their respective development strategies, and learned from each other in expanding reform and opening up.

On January 2, 1992, China and Ukraine established diplomatic relations; In 2012, the two countries established a strategic partnership; Signed the Treaty on Friendly and Cooperative Relations between China and Ukraine in 2013; In 2016, China Ukraine established a comprehensive strategic partnership;   During the May 2023 China China Asia Summit, the leaders of China and Ukraine held a bilateral meeting and signed the "China Ukraine Joint Declaration". They passed the "China Ukraine Comprehensive Strategic Partnership Development Plan for the New Era (2023-2027)" and jointly witnessed the signing of multiple bilateral cooperation documents in areas such as priority investment projects, poverty reduction, agricultural trade, inspection and quarantine, and local cooperation.

Currently, the two countries are moving towards the goal of further deepening the comprehensive strategic partnership between China and Ukraine in the new era.

Convenient and efficient economic and trade exchanges

China is Uzbekistan's largest trading partner and major source of investment. In 2022, the bilateral international trade volume between China and Ukraine reached 9.78 billion US dollars, a year-on-year increase of 21.8%. The trade target of 10 billion US dollars set by the two heads of state is expected to be achieved as soon as possible.

With the deepening of international trade and economic exchanges, the degree of trade facilitation between the two countries continues to improve. Recently, China and Uzbekistan signed an arrangement for mutual recognition of the "Certified Operators" (AEO) system, making Chinese customs the first AEO mutual recognition partner of Uzbekistan's customs. After the implementation of the Mutual Recognition Arrangement, AEO enterprises in both countries will enjoy lower inspection rates for imported goods, priority inspections for goods that require physical inspection, establishment of enterprise coordinators, and priority customs clearance after international trade interruption and resumption. This will help AEO enterprises greatly reduce customs clearance time and significantly reduce trade costs such as warehousing and logistics.

Connectivity benefits people's livelihoods

Uzbekistan is an important participant in the China Central Asia cooperation mechanism and a crossroads connecting Central Asia with China and other transportation corridors. In recent years, "national landmarks," "livelihood projects," and "cooperation monuments" have emerged one after another. The completion of the "Anglian Pap" railway tunnel constructed by China has put an end to the history of local travel crossing mountains and mountains; The opening of the China Kyrgyzstan Uzbekistan Highway has become a major international transportation artery for crossing mountains and mountains... Uzbekistan, located in the hinterland of the Eurasian continent, is transforming from a "land locked country" into a "land connected country", connecting the Pacific and Atlantic oceans by opening up a logistics corridor spanning east and west on the Eurasian continent.

Taking the "Angren Pap" railway as an example, this tunnel runs through mountains and across Central Asia. It is the first railway tunnel in Uzbekistan's history and a major achievement of the "the Belt and Road" jointly built by China and Uzbekistan. The local people originally needed to take a detour of 150 kilometers from Tashkent to Fergana to another country; Now it only takes 3 hours to arrive, saving 6 hours compared to before. This railway has greatly promoted the railway industry and economic and social development in Ukraine.

Personnel communication and continuation of friendship

In 2019, the two countries signed the Agreement between the Government of the People's Republic of China and the Government of the Republic of Uzbekistan on Simplifying Business Visa Procedures, opening up broad prospects for consolidating bilateral relations and developing bilateral economic, trade and investment cooperation. In the future, both sides are willing to further enhance the facilitation level of bilateral personnel exchanges. It is understood that Uzbekistan implements a 10 day visa free entry policy for Chinese citizens, and China will also take facilitation measures for Uzbek citizens to visit China.

Data shows that China has trained over 6500 professional talents in various industries for Uzbekistan, who are actively engaged in the reform and development cause of Uzbekistan.

The friendship between China and Uzbekistan has a long history and has formed a prosperous picture of the Silk Road with international trade, economic and trade exchanges, and cultural integration and development since ancient times. In the future, the two countries will jointly write a new chapter of economic and trade exchanges, people-to-people communication, and mutual learning of civilizations.
