2022 is a fruitful year for the construction and development of the Western Land Sea New Corridor. The recently released 2022 Western Land Sea New Channel Development Index report shows that the development index of the Western Land Sea New Channel in 2022 was 135.2 points, an increase of 10.3% and 32.5% compared to 122.6 in 2021 and 102.0 in 2020, respectively. This indicates that the overall implementation of the Western Land Sea New Channel strategy in 2022 is good and the operational effectiveness is increasing.
Liu Wei, Director of the Logistics and Operation Organization Center of the Western Land Sea New Channel, introduced that this index highlights the three main lines of development scale, quality, and competitiveness through dynamic monitoring and model calculation of infrastructure, service capacity, and industrial development, comprehensively reflecting the development and operation of the Western Land Sea New Channel.
The report shows that in 2022, the scale index of the new land sea channel in western China will continue to maintain a rapid growth, 17.6 points higher than that in 2021, reaching 156.8 points, reflecting that the channel construction and logistics operation are in good condition, and the exponential growth growth of infrastructure scale and logistics scale is the most obvious.
The quality development index slightly decreased to 111.3 points, an increase of 11.3 points compared to the base period, but a decrease of 1.9 points compared to 2021. The international trade structure indicators along the channel have gradually been optimized, and various indicators of economic development zones in various provinces and cities are good, providing a solid foundation for the high-quality development of the channel. However, the decline in trade dependence indicators has had a significant impact, resulting in a significant decrease in the intensification index.
The competitiveness index has grown rapidly, increasing by 14.8 points to 125.6 points compared to 2021. The western land sea new channel continuously improves logistics infrastructure such as railways, highways, ports, and ports, and cultivates logistics organization methods such as international rail sea intermodal transportation, cross-border road transportation, and international railway intermodal transportation. It provides a convenient and smooth logistics channel for the western region, helping it further integrate into the international trade market, especially making international trade and economic exchanges with the ten ASEAN countries more convenient, Transforming the western inland region from a "defender" of opening up to the outside world to a "vanguard" has driven the growth of trade along the route and become an important driving force for promoting high-quality economic development in the western region.
The index report also shows that the policy dividend of the western land sea new channel has emerged, driving the formation of a huge market. The indicator scale of provinces, regions, and cities along the land sea new channel has grown rapidly, with a foreign trade scale index of 132.7 and an industrial scale index of 129.1. The import and export volume of international trade between the regions along the route and the ten ASEAN countries has increased from 691.6 billion yuan in 2019 to 881.7 billion yuan in 2022, with an annual compound growth rate of 8.91%.
Liu Wei stated that in the future, the western land sea new channel will serve as a major axis of economic development, effectively promoting the gathering of innovative resources, economic factors, and population, and driving the rapid development of industries such as international trade, cross-border logistics, electronic information, intelligent manufacturing, finance, etc., attracting industries to gather in advantageous regions, optimizing economic development division of labor and cooperation, and industrial transformation and upgrading.
