Britain suspends transactions with Chinese investors on the grounds of threatening national security

2021-09-24

The British authorities stopped the deal between British graphene supplier Perpetuus and Chinese investors on the grounds that they threatened national security.

Adding graphene can improve the wear resistance of rubber, so this technology is widely used in the production of tires such as Vittoria bicycle tires, but it is reported that this technology can also be used in the aerospace and defense fields.

Perpetuus, located in Swansea, Wales, has an annual operating volume of only 1 million pounds and only 14 employees. The company had previously negotiated investment issues with the British company Taurus International, the owner of which is a Chinese investor.

The report pointed out that since the passage of the Enterprise Act in 2002, the British government has intervened in investment transactions 15 times on the grounds of national security.
