International trade is an important cornerstone of world economic development

2022-11-22

International trade is an important part of building an open economy in the world, which is related to the driving force of economic growth and the level of high-quality development around the world. The world economy thrives when it is open, but declines when it is closed. Looking at the historical development, economic globalization emphasizes the freedom of trade, investment, personnel exchanges and information flow. The rapid development of the world economy after World War II is closely related to the prosperity of international trade.

An open, fair and transparent multilateral trading system serves the common interests of all countries in the world. To see is to know. To see is to know. The great achievements of China in the past 21 years after its accession to the WTO are the best manifestation of the importance of international trade. Looking back on the history of China's accession to the World Trade Organization, it took us fifteen years and five months. The changes after China's accession to the WTO are obvious: China's total economic output will exceed 110 trillion yuan by 2021, reaching 114.4 trillion yuan, from less than 11 trillion yuan in 2001 when China entered the WTO; In 2001, China's foreign exchange reserves were only 200 billion US dollars, reaching 3.25 trillion US dollars in 2021; In 2001, the total import and export volume of China's international trade was only 500 billion US dollars, and by 2016 it had exceeded 6 trillion US dollars for the first time; China's economic aggregate has risen from the sixth place to the second place in the world, its trade in goods has risen from the sixth place to the first place in the world, its trade in services has risen from the eleventh place to the second place in the world, its utilization of foreign capital has ranked first among developing countries, and its foreign direct investment has risen from the 26th place to the first place in the world. These 21 years are not only the 21 years of rapid economic development and remarkable improvement of people's living standards in China, but also the 21 years of deep integration, sharing opportunities and common growth between China and the world. As a result, General Secretary Xi Jinping stressed that China's determination to expand high-level opening up, share development opportunities with the world, and promote economic globalization towards a more open, inclusive, inclusive, balanced and win-win direction will not change.

Although at present, the century long changes are intertwined with the century's epidemic, the economic globalization is facing a countercurrent, and the world has entered a new period of turbulence and change. Some countries have "built walls and barriers", "decoupled and broken chains". There are also views that global trade and multilateralism pose more threats than opportunities, and should be divided into a multilateral trading system. However, the simulation of the World Trade Organization shows that if the world economy is divided into two trade groups, the global real GDP is expected to decline by about 5% in the long run, which is due to the reduction of specialization and technology spillovers. Practice has proved that the establishment of "small circles" will only hinder the free flow of commodities and services, capital, technology and other elements in the global scope, which is not conducive to the improvement of international specialization and production efficiency, but also affects the innovation and healthy development of industries in China, pushing the world towards division and confrontation. The world is in harmony with all nations. At present, people from all walks of life look forward to peaceful development more earnestly, call for fairness and justice more strongly, and pursue win-win cooperation more urgently. In particular, with the deepening integration and penetration of ICT and international trade, countries around the world have become more closely connected and interdependent. It is self-evident whether the prospect of international trade is globalization or anti globalization. The road of globalization for mankind will not be reversed. In the face of the common difficulties and challenges facing the world, it is the general trend and the aspiration of the people to stick to multilateral trade rules, promote multilateral cooperation in the regional and world context, and work together to write more stories of openness, cooperation, mutual benefit and win-win results.
