International trade is an important cornerstone of world economic development

2023-01-13

International trade is related to the driving force of economic growth and high-quality development level around the world, and is an important part of building an open economy in the world. The world economy thrives when it is open, and declines when it is closed. Throughout the history, economic globalization emphasizes the freedom of trade, investment, personnel and information. The rapid development of the world economy after the "World War II" is closely related to the prosperity of international trade.

An open, fair and transparent multilateral trading system is in the common interests of all countries in the world. You can know what you see and what you see. China's great achievements in the 21 years since its accession to the WTO are the best manifestation of the importance of international trade. Looking back on the history of China's accession to the World Trade Organization, it took us 15 years and five months to achieve success through hardships. The changes after China's accession to the WTO are obvious: China's total economic output will exceed 110 trillion yuan and reach 114.4 trillion yuan in 2021 from less than 11 trillion yuan in 2001 when China entered the WTO; In 2001, China's foreign exchange reserves were only US $200 billion, reaching US $325 trillion in 2021; In 2001, China's total import and export volume of international trade was only US $500 billion, and by 2016 it had exceeded US $6 trillion for the first time; China's total economic output has risen from the sixth to the second place in the world, the trade in goods has risen from the sixth to the first place in the world, the trade in services has risen from the eleventh to the second place in the world, the utilization of foreign capital has steadily ranked first in developing countries, and the foreign direct investment has risen from the 26th to the first place in the world. These 21 years are not only the 21 years of rapid economic development and significant improvement of people's living standards in China, but also the 21 years of deep integration, sharing opportunities and common growth between China and the world.

Although at present, the changes of the century and the epidemic situation of the century are intertwined, the economic globalization has encountered a counter-current, and the world has entered a new period of turbulence and transformation. Some countries have "built walls and barriers", "decoupled and broken the chain". There are also views that global trade and multilateralism pose more threats than opportunities, and the multilateral trading system should be divided. However, the simulation of the World Trade Organization shows that if the world economy is divided into two trading groups, the global real GDP is expected to decline by about 5% in the long run, which is due to the reduction of specialization and technology spillovers. Practice has proved that engaging in "small circles" will only hinder the free flow of goods and services, capital and technology and other factors around the world, which is not conducive to the improvement of the degree of international specialization and production efficiency, but also affects the healthy development of domestic innovation and industry, pushing the world towards division and confrontation. The world is in harmony with all nations. At present, the expectations of all circles for peaceful development are more ardent, the voice for fairness and justice is stronger, and the pursuit of win-win cooperation is more urgent. Especially with the deepening of the integration and penetration of information and communication technology and all aspects of international trade, countries around the world have become more closely connected and more interdependent. It is self-evident whether the prospect of international trade is globalization or anti-globalization. The path of globalization of mankind will not be reversed. In the face of the difficulties and challenges facing the world, it is the trend of the times and the aspiration of the people to adhere to the multilateral trade rules, promote multilateral cooperation in the regional and global context, and work together to write more stories of open cooperation and mutual benefit.
