According to the General Administration of Customs of Cambodia, Cambodia's total international trade in 2022 exceeded US $52 billion, up 9.2% from 2021.
The report of the General Administration of Customs pointed out that in 2022, Cambodia's total international trade exports reached 22.4 billion US dollars, up 16.4% year on year; Cambodia's total imports amounted to US $29.9 billion, up 4.3% year on year.
The report shows that Cambodia's international trade deficit reached 7.4 billion US dollars last year.
The spokesman of the Ministry of Commerce said that the increase in exports was the result of Cambodia's comprehensive implementation of the Regional Comprehensive Economic Partnership Agreement (RCEP), the China-Cambodia Free Trade Agreement and the trade preferences of the European Union and the United States.
He said that the growth of exports showed the potential of Cambodian products in foreign markets, although the world economy was facing crisis. Trade agreements have boosted Cambodia's export growth.
Cambodia's main international trade export products are clothing, electrical appliances, footwear products, leather products, food, furniture, rubber, fruit, vegetables, toys and textiles.
Clothing, footwear and tourism supplies are the largest income-generating industries in Cambodia. These industries consist of about 1100 factories and employ about 750000 workers, most of them women.
The economic research scholar of the Royal Academy of Sciences of Cambodia said that the clothing industry has played an important role in creating income for the national economy, especially helping workers find jobs, although these crises have had some effects.
Cambodia's major international trading partners are China, the United States, the European Union, Vietnam and Singapore.
The Vice President of the Cambodian Chamber of Commerce pointed out that the government has successfully fought the epidemic, so all social and economic activities have resumed. With the recovery of the factory production chain, purchase orders have also increased.
