U.S. toy e-commerce increased by 13.3%, how to sell toys on Amazon?

Due to the increase in consumer spending, the toy industry is developing rapidly. Data from Ecommerce-platforms shows that in 2019, the toy market is valued at 90.7 billion US dollars. Between 2014 and 2019, the US online toy industry grew by 13.3%. This figure includes online sales from online sellers and brick-and-mortar businesses.

Although the toy industry is becoming more and more saturated, as long as online sellers provide fast shipping times and high-quality products, e-commerce sales will continue to account for an increasing proportion of toy sales.

▌1. What are the requirements for selling toys on Amazon?

Many parents like to buy toys for their children on well-known online platforms such as Amazon, which will make them feel at ease. If an independent site seller decides to sell toys to customers in the EU through Amazon, they need to ensure that all toys meet the following requirements:

1. EU regulations;

2. Local laws;

3. Amazon's own policies.

If these standards are not met, Amazon is likely to remove the seller’s product listing from their platform.

▌Second, how to start selling on Amazon?

1. When registering as an Amazon seller, the seller must choose between two sales plans:

(1) The Professional plan.

(2) The Individual plan.

The Pro plan allows Amazon sellers to sell unlimited products. For UK sellers, it will cost £25 a month (not including VAT). The Individual plan does not have to pay a monthly subscription fee; however, Amazon sellers must pay £0.75 for each product sold.

2. When the seller decides whether he wants a Pro account or an Individual account, he must create an account through Amazon's "SellerCentral Seller Center". From this online control panel, sellers can manage Amazon sales accounts.

3. Once the registration is completed, Amazon sellers can start publishing toy products. If it is an Individual account, one product will be added to the Amazon platform at a time. If it is a Pro account, you can use Amazon's bulk tool to upload a large number of products.

4. When it comes to managing orders, Amazon offers several options:

(1) The'ManageOrders'tool "Manage Orders" tool: This tool displays the Amazon order list. Here, the seller can also pay attention to the specific details of the selected order.

(2) Order Reports: These reports can generate order fulfillment across multiple orders data.

(3) Amazon Marketplace Web Service (Amazon MWS): If you are a Web developer, or the seller has the opportunity to use this tool, and has purchased Amazon's Pro sales plan, you can use this API to retrieve information about new orders.

5. If you want Amazon to provide assistance in logistics, you can try FBA. If so, the seller must ship the inventory to an Amazon fulfillment center. Amazon will process shipping labels, pack inventory, and send orders directly to customers.

6. Amazon also offers discounted shipping costs. However, in order to make Amazon's logistics services worthwhile, sellers need to sell a lot of toys. Therefore, if you are a novice seller and are not in a distribution mode, it is best to store your own inventory and use a cheaper courier to deliver the toys.

When a seller receives sales revenue on Amazon, Amazon will deposit the sales revenue directly into the seller's bank account. Then, the Amazon seller will receive a notification that the payment has been sent.
