Since China's accession to the WTO, the export of products to the European Union has accounted for a very large proportion of domestic products, but now, there are still people who are entangled in whether products need to be marked with CE...
Some time ago, the editor also encountered a question in the exchange group that one of his products did not obtain toy certification, but did a ROHS test. Some people said that the CE mark cannot be added to the product in this case.
Regarding this question, let us first review the definition of the CE mark in the European Union: CE certification stands for Conformite European. The addition of the CE mark on the product and packaging means that the product meets the main requirements of the relevant European directives.
Different types of products determine that they should comply with different directives. For example, if it is a machine, it needs to meet the EU Machinery Directive 2006/42/EC, but it is very likely that it also needs to meet the EMC Directive 2014/30/EU and the Low Voltage Directive. LowVoltage Directive 2014/35/EU.
If it is a toy product, it must at least meet the Toy Directive 2009/48/EU.
If there is a wireless transmission function such as Wifi, it needs to meet the directive 2014/53/EU (RED).
Therefore, the nature of the product determines the content of the product conformity declaration.
And electronic products also need to meet the EU's ROHS directive.
Therefore, as long as your product falls within the scope of CE control, you need to affix a CE mark that meets the requirements on the product.
CE certification method
According to the level of product risk, the EU divides the ways to obtain CE certification into the following three categories:
1) The Declaration of conformity issued by the company itself is referred to as DoC. This certificate is a self-declaration and should not be issued by a third-party agency (intermediary or testing certification agency). Therefore, the EU format of the company’s "Sexual Statement" instead.
2)Certificate of compliance/Certificate of compliance "Certificate of Compliance", this is a compliance statement issued by a third-party agency (intermediary or testing certification agency), must be accompanied by test reports and other technical data TCF, at the same time, the company must also sign the " Declaration of Conformity.
3) EC Attestation of conformity "Certificate of Conformity to EU Standards", this is a certificate issued by the EU Notified Body (Notified Body abbreviated as NB). According to EU regulations, only the EU Notified Body is qualified to issue the EC Type CE declaration.
What products do not require CE marking?
Some products are not covered by the European CE Marking Directive, so there is no need to affix the CE mark. However, it is important to note that these products may fall within the scope of other EU or national regulations. Although CE directives or regulations are not applicable, other regulations may apply, such as the General Product Safety Directive (2001/95/EC). Products that meet the requirements of the General Product Safety Directive can be considered safe products, but CE marking is not required.
The following products do not require CE marking:
chemicals
Medicines
Cosmetics
Ingredients
So, after reading these, we should probably know which types of products need to be affixed with the CE mark?
I would like to remind here that some factories think that as long as the product has a CE mark, it is OK, but often the mark they give is not a problem with the size specification, or the font is not standardized enough.
How do we correctly affix the CE mark on the product or packaging?
In fact, the standard also has strict regulations on this:

1. CE standard size
For the size of the CE mark, there are packaging regulations. The height of the CE word should be at least 5mm, and the total length of the CE word should not exceed 12mm, and the width of the CE font should be no less than one-fifth. The thickness must be at least 1/5 of the height (here at least 20×1/5=4mm), the outer radius is 10mm, and the inner horizontal column must have at least 80% of the outer radius (10×0.8=8mm).
2. CE standard size scaling
The CE mark should be scaled in proportion to the mark shown in the figure.
If the CE mark cannot be affixed to the product in a visible, legible and permanent manner, it must be displayed on the packaging or any supplementary documents.
3. To affix the CE mark on the product, manufacturer or any other related party, it must be ensured that all necessary conformity assessment procedures have been successfully completed, usually, this is done at the end of the production phase. However, if for some reason, the CE mark forms an integral part of the product, then the manufacturer can affix it at any other stage of the production stage. This is only allowed if the manufacturer or certification body can verify the conformity of the product during the production control phase.
For the majority of exporters, when determining whether a product needs to meet the requirements of the export destination, they must first at least understand some of the local laws and regulations on their own products. Making a decision outweighs the gain.
