America's largest wooden toy company builds new factory

2022-07-19

American wood toy maker Melissa & Doug is tackling supply chain issues.

The Connecticut-based toymaker will open a shipping and receiving factory to support its growth and continue its efforts to become more environmentally friendly. The 500,000-square-foot space, located near the New Jersey Turnpike in New Jersey, is expected to expand further to 750,000 square feet by 2026.

The location’s direct access to the interstate is designed to simplify logistics from warehouse to customer, while increasing storage space and increasing the number of customer orders, the new facility will operate with a five-fold increase in capacity.

The new factory is also equipped with solar panels, utilizes LED lighting and automated sensors, has a fleet of nearly all electric forklifts, and has a recycling output of 95 percent of corrugated cardboard waste. The company provides employment to more than 250 employees.

Sekar Sundararajan, Chief Supply Chain Officer, said: “We continue to modernize and transform our supply chain by adding innovative and sustainable technologies to deliver orders to customers quickly and efficiently, and seeing the benefits to our employees and customers benefit from it. It's something worthwhile." "We are proud of our ongoing commitment to earning the trust of our customers, and we will continue to innovate to maintain that commitment."
