Last Thursday (November 3), Lego's first carbon neutral plant officially broke ground in Vietnam. Niels Christiansen, CEO of Lego, Frederik, Crown Prince of Denmark, Pham Binh Minh, Deputy Prime Minister of Vietnam and other local officials attended the commencement ceremony, holding shovels made of Lego bricks to build a formal "broken" ground for the factory. It is reported that the factory is located in Pingyang Province, about 50 kilometers away from Ho Chi Minh City, the capital of Vietnam, covering an area of 44 hectares (about the size of 60 football fields). It is planned to invest $1 billion and will be officially put into operation in 2024. The energy comes from the solar energy provided by the roof panels of the factory and the adjacent solar farms. And half of the products produced will use environment-friendly and sustainable materials, and the production waste will be properly treated without landfill, It is a real carbon neutral factory.

As the largest toy enterprise in the world, Lego's revenue in the first half of this year reached DKK 27 billion (about 25.1 billion yuan), up 17% year on year; The operating profit reached DKK 7.9 billion (about 7.356 billion yuan), and the net profit remained at a stable level of DKK 6.2 billion (about 5.773 billion yuan).

According to Huacheng Import and Export Data Observation, currently, Lego's global supply chain includes factories located in China, the Czech Republic, Hungary, Mexico and the company's headquarters in Denmark. Lego said that the products produced by the new factory will be supplied to Asian regions other than China, nearby, to speed up market response and reduce carbon emissions from transportation. Christiansen told the media that Vietnam will become Lego's sixth manufacturing center, targeting the rapidly expanding middle class in Asia.

According to the observation report of Huacheng import and export data, in the next 15 years, this new factory will provide 4000 jobs for the local people, and promise to plant 50000 trees to reduce its global carbon emissions by 37% by 2032.

In addition to the Vietnam factory, in June this year, Lego also announced that it would spend $1 billion to build a factory covering an area of 1.7 million square feet (about 158 hectares) in Virginia, which would be the only factory of the company in the United States and the seventh factory in the world.
