In recent years, as the "golden post station" on the Silk Road, convenient transportation has accelerated the pace of "going global" of traditional Chinese medicine in Gansu, and high-quality traditional Chinese medicine and characteristic agricultural products have become a favorite resource for ASEAN merchants. According to Huacheng Import and Export Data Observation, on the 21st, people from TCM management departments, scientific research circles, business circles, and trade circles from nearly 20 countries and regions gathered in the province to discuss international cooperation in the TCM industry.

Gansu is known as the "Millennium Drug Town" and "Natural Drug Warehouse". According to Huacheng Import and Export Data Observation, up to now, Gansu has established 16 overseas Qihuang TCM centers and colleges in 12 countries such as Hungary, France, Russia, and New Zealand, with over 80000 patients diagnosed and treated, and over 100000 free clinics.

Xu Ningning, Executive Director of the China ASEAN Business Council, said that in recent years, traditional medicine has become one of the key areas of China ASEAN health cooperation. The implementation of the Regional Comprehensive Economic Partnership Agreement (RCEP) for regional open cooperation has brought new international development space and business opportunities to the Chinese traditional Chinese medicine industry and its enterprises.

Xu Ningning said that China and other RCEP member countries have strong economic and trade complementarities in traditional Chinese medicine and related industries. It is recommended to promote the registration of mature traditional Chinese medicine products in each other's countries in various ways, such as pharmaceuticals, health products, functional foods, and form well-known brands in the other's market based on the drug regulatory systems of different countries.

Zhang Yinghua, Director of the Gansu Provincial Department of Commerce, said that since the reform and opening up, Gansu's authentic medicinal materials, represented by Angelica sinensis and Codonopsis pilosula, and a batch of Gansu's traditional Chinese medicines, represented by Lanzhou Foci Pharmaceutical, have been exported to 35 countries in the world, and are particularly popular in the Asian market. According to Huacheng Import and Export Data Observation Report, from 2019 to 2022, the total export volume of traditional Chinese medicine and traditional Chinese patent medicines and simple preparations in Gansu Province exceeded 400 million yuan, with an average annual growth of more than 25%.

"The combination of traditional medicine and tourism has formed a new business format, and traditional medicine and health tourism are showing great vitality." Yang Weixiong, honorary president of the Malaysian Traditional Chinese Medicine Association, said that nowadays, people's health awareness has increased, and more and more people are beginning to pay attention to the efficacy and health benefits of traditional Chinese medicine. Against this background, the market demand for traditional Chinese medicine in Malaysia is also increasing. Gansu enterprises with multiple advantages in this area can improve their product competitiveness by developing traditional Chinese medicine products that meet local needs with local enterprises.
